Well my white Scout as we know it is done! This morning while it was warming up I stepped away long enough for it to roll down my driveway with my heavy ass car trailer in tow and directly into one of my oak trees. The frame is bent. R.I.p my old friend. Hope everyone else has a good day.

Damn, that is sucky news!! :icon_sad: sorry to hear it Jeff, hopefully you can salvage soemthing off of it, time to go bigger, stronger and faster?

.................................. .......................................................................never mind.

Sorry to hear about the accident.

I have a 1974 frame you can have. This is a day we need to put all of our International flags at half mast. :icon_crying::icon_crying:

oh fuck!!!!

Bright side... Now ya can put that fresh motor ya been plannin' in sumthin' else.

I'm sure norma votes for draggin' out the silver rig from pop's boat parking slot and completing that project ya began ...what...10 years ago???

Did this run of luck start when dimock let his rig run away with the trailer in his initial visit with his landlord?? If so, then dimock can be blamed for actin' like an albatross!

At least ya got the firetruck still to pull the trailer!

And it ain't like ya ain't got 47 more sii cores to chose from...now ya can take advantage of that latest ihon promotion regarding a "free Scout II with build contract".

Scruu a sii build, this is an omen, git that dam blue virgin squarebody t'all pulled into position and do a real ride up right!

If I had the time I would fix the Scout. If I had the time I would fix the Travelall. I have no time right now. I need a tow rig as without one I'm dead in the water(especially with the big move on the horizon). My bank just preapproved me for a auto loan. All I can say is it's either going to be cummins powered or powerstroke.

Man that is bad news, my heart goes out to you! I don't know what I would do if that happened to me.
Sounds like you might have the first project in the new shop.

Hey Jeff I had the same choice to make and after driving both and the fact that the Ford has a IH engine I went with the f350 sd power stroke in 2008. I absolutely love it and the fuel mileage is right at 14-15 true calculated. For towing all of the time a dually is nice but the economy suffers by 2 + mpg. I also feel Ford is a more stable company financially.

My condolences.

It seems like on my Scout the only thing I don't curse the po over is the microlock installed on the brakes. The standard e-brake lets off whenever it damn well pleases.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts.

Well here is how it went down. Fired up the Scout in the morning to warm it up. I had already hitched my car trailer the night before as plans were to stop at home depot after work and grab another load of materials for the shop. Parking brake was set. As I walked away I remembered I needed to grab my coffee cup so I went back and grabbed it. Walking away I looked back over my shoulder and checked again that the Scout wasn't moving/creeping forward. I then walked into my garage for a moment when I heard a large crash/bang. Looked out to see my rig had rolled down the hill and right into my last oak tree next to the road.:incazzato: Scout was still running so I locked in the hubs in order to try and back it up but the steering was jacked up. So I turned for the road instead in order to hopefully swing into my second driveway. Again the steering was all jacked up(rag joint was in pieces) and as I was trying to make the turn the rag joint gave up. So with no steering I somewhat plowed up into my fence trying to get off the road as much as possible. Pulled out my saftey flag to flag people around until my wife came out and took that duty over. Michael d. Was just up the road waiting for me to pick him up so I called him and had him buzz right over. Together we unhitched the car trailer and rolled it back far enough that I could sneak in my little Nissan pickup and hitch the trailer and get it off the road. With that out of the way it was time for the Scout. As I was trying to move forward/back I had michael try to turn the tires but it wasn't easy. After a few attempts we finally got the Scout off the road. From there I had michael take over driving as I steered my Scout by turning the steering box by hand thru the wheel well. After some more fussing around we got it in a place that I was happy with. We cleaned up and jumped in the Nissan and headed down to the shop.

Looking at the Scout the frame is badly damaged in the front left corner. Can it be fixed? Well yes but it's still fucked up. Hard to believe how so much damage occured for something that couldn't have been going more that 15-20mph??? The Scout will need a new left fender, inner fender, hood, grill, steering box, and more. My front bumper got wacked pretty good. Since I store my hi lift jack on the front bumper it got bent all to hell as well. For now I'm just going to park the rig. Initial thought is to fix the frame as best as possible and depending on how good it looks I May just put it back together the way it was(before the wreck). If I can't get the frame straight up there then I May go three link/coil overs.

For now I am lookink at buying a used truck. I've been kicking it around for some time but this was the final nail in the coffin so to speak. I already have my eyes on a 2001 f350. I'll get some pictures of the crinkled Scout and post up on Monday as I don't have a way to download pictures on my laptop.
