Should have stayed in bed

Jeff, that's a tough way to start the day and I'm bummed for ya. Maybe we should make firewood out of the tree?

Here are the pictures as promised. Really it's not all that bad except for the frame. Had the frame not got damage this could easily be fixed.

You can see where the spring hanger is bent back which has partially collapsed the bottom of the frame.

Rag joint shredded right off.

The frame is also damaged around the steering box area. Notice the box bolts are loose/stretched partly from the frame becoming distorted.

The frame is also bent between the area of the front spring hanger and the front body mount. The frame did start to tear where it was once welded on.

There is no more gap between the door and quarter panel.

Amazingly enough the hood still opens without any assistance.

That's the oak tree that stopped the Scout in it's tracks. Had the Scout veered slightly to the right it would have crossed the road.

I was parked right here in front of the trailer when it all went downhill.

You can see the path it took. Amazing that it didn't hit the firetruck or anything else on its way down.

The title of this thread says it all!

Btdt myself but without quite as bad a result.

Those woulda/coulda/shoulda's sure can bite you where you sit down.

Were you ever able to determine why your Scout decided to proceed on without you?

If you decide to go with a Ford don't get one with an automatic behind a diesel. Pulling the kind of weight you do on the kinds of roads you drive is a prefect prescription for a Ford automatic transmission failure.

Opps dokie happens I dident like that paint job any way its still repairable just rember its all nuts and bolts:icon_sad:

Holy fuck!!! I'm just catching up! What a shitty deal. Fuck man... Well let me know if you need anything hauled/towed while hunting for a new truck. I know you and I have talked about it for a couple of years now. Guess this made the choice for you. You know my feelings, I wouldn't trade my f350 for all the dodge trucks in the land. I love mine. Look for a 6 speed if you can find one!! Sorry man, but like trever said at least you and the family are ok. Like I said, let me know. I will also keep my eyes out for you.

Edit: by the way this got me thinking about the last time a Scout went down a hill without you in it, I am way happy you were safe and sound this time.

Dang man... Sorry about the rig... But like ethan says at least you and the family are alright.

Well that truly sucks. I hate to see that. Feel bad for the loss. What happen to the parking brakes? Did they fail? Or did I miss the reason why it started to roll?

This event encouraged me to take apart my parking brake and sharpen up the keeper using my whetstone. It was easier to get apart than I thought it would be and now the brake works great. The gears on the pedal arm seemed almost perfect, but the keeper tooth was rounded off pretty severely.

Yeah Chad, ada and I were talking about the last time Jeff had a mishap. Glad he was not hurt. Last time he got caught between the pos j@#p and the Scout- Jeff lost. I remember celebrating our Sierra Scouts 1996? Xmas party at the penis lane shop. We had to call Jeff at the hospital in roseville from the party. Then we had to drain those kegs of beer... Do they make na kegs for jeffs new shop opening bash??? Lol there will always be another Scout around the corner but only one Jeff. Be good.

Wow, just caught this thread... What a bummer! I could not have said it better than this though!

"there will always be another Scout around the corner but only one Jeff... Be well!"

all the best,
Craig aka cheese

Glad to hear it was just the Scout that got damaged and not you or the kids. What is it with you and runaway scouts anyways? I think it was already mentioned, but could that silver Scout that has been hiding in your Dad's barn for the last few years be the next IHOnly north covergirl. Build the hell out of it, then write it off as advertising :ihih:

Michael and Darren are putting the final parts back on the Scout. I should be driving it home today(with the exception of the front bumper).

Whitey lives again!

Hooooray!!!!! Jeff! Glad to hear it's back on the road! I can feel your pain, I finished re-painting the Scout and as I pulled out of the driveway (the first time since the paint dried) I came real close of getting smucked by a pickup pulling a trailer with a bobcat on it, there was no way he was going to stop with that load (60mph). It was totally my fault I just did not see him. Talk about changing my shorts!!!!!
I am glad to hear yours is back on the road!!
Ron
