Service Manual Question

I have access to an original service manual for the 1976-77 Scout II. Mine is an 1980. Is it close enough to work? Did they make any major changes? I have read many times that the reprints aren't fantastic so I was looking at this original one.

All the emissions crap on mine found a new home in the trash can and it's wearing a 2300 carb now so I'm not too worried about that. Other than that, you think it's a safe bet ?

Some of the electrical is a little different, in particular the bulkhead connectors. Not a deal breaker I don't think, so long as you're aware of it.

I still have my factory manual for a 1975 xlc I once owned. It's pretty dog-eared. I also had the factory manual for a 1980 I once owned, but sold along with the vehicle. Now I have another 1980 and am using the 1975 manual to sort out wiring and other issues. Pretty much the same layout and so far it's given me the answers I need. Regarding emissions, if you get stuck, you can always ask someone to post whatever it is diagram you need. It's amazing how little changed over time.

I think it's funny (and typical) that in my '75 manual they have a section on the thermoquad carb (Scout didn't use it until '79 ('78 according to some)), the 1920, 1940, 2210, and the 2100/2300 variants. And tables and tables of distributor data, and truck/t'all emissions diagrams, and also the bw automatic used in the '70 or '71 scouts. Almost a hodge-podge.

Thanks for the info. I did find a vol II for an 80, which looks like what I need for now. I pulled my trans/transfer case last night and I'm not sure where to start. Looks like it's in that book so I'll be covered for now. Now I need to start looking for vol I. If anyone has one they want to part with let me know.
