Scout II upgrading to power brakes with a question or two

Mornin' ya'll,

truck 1971 Scout II
converted to Dana 44 disc front by earlier owner
drums in rear still
304 v8

I purchased a booster and master with pedal bar and proportioning valve from a 1972 parts Scout.

Put the booster and master in last night

two questions

1. Brake pedal sits closer to floor now - correct ??
2. The lines that run out of the master now lead - big well of master to rear and smaller to front (that how it was prior) should I switch these to give the fronts the larger capacity part of the master cylinder ??

Thanks everyone - happy holidays

First off, the front reservoir generally feeds the rear brakes and the rear feeds the fronts. The parts from the '72 donor would be for a drum/drum system and not correct for your disk/drum setup. You need to look at '74 and newer for the correct items.

No, the booster, rod and mount are all different on the 71-73 vs 74 and later. As well as the prop valve.

Thanks everyone - that is very helpful, yet terrible news.
Now I have to relocate a bunch of power brake equipment.

Anybody holding ??

Thanks david

You probably don't want to rock a used mc anyway, unless you have accurate knowledge of its vintage and condition. As in just removed from a good stopping Scout. Mc's are not bone yard pick items. Remans can also be of questionable quality anymore. New is the best way to go. We are talking brakes here after all. The other items are okay used. Vacuum boosters can be rebuilt. Place a want ad in the classifieds. Might get lucky.

Agreed to what has been said so far. Ramnufactered masters are questionable at best. I personally would stay awy from a used junk yard special. Unless. Like has been said earlier, it's from a known good source of stopping prowes.

Too bad it's a month or two late. I just recently sold a booster set up for disc front drum rears, to a guy out in walnut creek. The kid purchased a new m/c from IHPA and I installed and bled the system.

Hey scooter, if you come across anything else - do let me know - I live in alameda and stop by with ease and pick it up.

The stuff I purchased from a guy who parted a running truck, I have an email out to him and hopefully he had converted his truck to disc fronts before parting out and then I should be ok.

Swing by the shop some time. I will be here wrenching on a 62 Scout 80 all weekend, trying to see about getting out and taking up floor space. Maybe we can talk further about yours. I currently don't have any proper boosters on hand for what you need.

Oh no! Stay away from scooter. He'll fill your head full of gum drops and fairy tales of scouts floating on clouds and mythical men on tractors. Run away while you still can.:hand:

Feeling like you're stuck in a gum ball machine or what? :icon_razz: but them mythical tractor trolls just might be true. So I been told.

Or it was the voices in my head steering me around in circles again

I have an extra bracket, and vacuum booster from a 1974 Scout II if interested. I am in oklahoma, but can ship. It has been awhile since your last post so you May have it already. If interested, call 918.607.9212.
