Scout II Facia

Hi folks,

I'm a little confused by the front facia on Scout II's. I have a 71 Scout II that had a bad facia. (the sheet metal bezel under the grill). The po had included a used one that is in decent shape, so, pre-paint, I installed it for fit. Went to put the parking lights in and noticed they were a different size. The openeing in the facia is 7-1/4" and the lamp is 7-1/2". Went over and measured my 72, and found the openings to be just over 7-1/2".

I would have figured that all Scout-II's from 71-80 would have used the same part, but I guess I'm wrong. Can anyone tell me what years are compatible? I either have to buy new lamps or a new facia and want to make sure I get the right one.

Thanks!

I call that part a lower valance. Don't know if either of our terms are the actual nomenclature. Doesn't much matter. I think the issue you've run into is this: that replacement valence I would guess (sorry mayben) came from a '76 or later sii. At that point in production, no doubt as a cost reduction, IH decided to switch from the two-peice metal bezel and amber lense unit to a one-piece, sealed plastic assembly. The later piece does not require the chrome plated bezel, thus making the previous cutout in the valance too large. So they re-sized the cutout. You have three possible solutions. A. Source a pair of the sealed plastic lights. (might be pricey). B. Source another valence from a verified pre-76 Scout. C. Booty-grind the lip of the chrome plated bulb housing down to fit the smaller cut-out.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. I needed to know what model year made the change and why. I'll need to source an earlier one as you state, as I have plenty of older style parking lamp assemblies. Seems like the cheapest solution, and I can sell the one I have.

Sure. Now that I think of it, that changeover May have taken place with the '77 model year. Idk for sure. As with many IH product line changes it May not have been a hard and fast occurrence between the end of one model year and the beginning of another. Tape measure is your friend.

The part under discussion is referred to as, "grille panel, lower". The part number shown for all versions is 479318 c3.

As for the light units, the p/n 357216 c91 was used through eop (end of production) on 8/24/76.

Beginning with sop (start of production) on 8/25/76, the part number was changed (and the part) to 443002 c91.

Information taken directly from mt-130 parts list for the Scout II (including the 810).

As trev has surmised, the "sop" for the Scout II model year 1977 production was 8/25/76.
