Scout heavies

All scouts are heavy, it's them huge cast iron motors, bell housings and transmissions that do it. ;-)

Unfortunately I am in a non-Scout area :icon_sad: I want to put in a dui, can't order it until I can get together a working party. When I lived in san diego, we had working parties at least twice a month. Can't seem to get it going here.

Oh, I get ya now. No binder enthusiasts in your new backyard. You might just have resort to your own devices. A distributor swap isn't that difficult a job.

Youre kinda out in the middle of nowhere. Most of us local babs guys/gals that seem to be fairly regular are pretty spread out between fremont, hayward, marin county, and richmond(where I'm located). I occasionally hold IH work/bbq days in my little man cave. There are couple guys on here work out in livermore. I'm currently unaware of other IH enthusiasts out in your area. Maybe post up in the introduction post and tell us about yourself. Maybe even post up what you May need help with

Hi-
im located in livermore and I work on my truck when the wife and kid and two jobs allow me out to my garage for fun. I wouldnt mind you coming out to my place for a work night. What kind of projects are you working on right now?

Always down to mix it up with other folks motivated and interested in the same stuff as I am!

Thanks Joe

first and foremost, find the dreaded hot start issue. I am thinking about doing the dui install... Will post in another thread though.

Maybe try the Ford remote relay. It's been discussed extensively here in these parts. There's at least one sticky thread on the subject.

Last time I drove my 73 beast, I was cursed with this same issue, along with other electrical nightmares, and had to get towed home. Currently, the oem wiring and any other wiring, is completely gutted out of my beast waiting for me to install a new harness with the added remote relay and a few other goodies.

I just posted up the dui question. I think, I hope this would remedy the hot start. Also, I have completed rewired Scout with kwik wire I believe...

Do you have the starter heat shield in place? It is a curved piece of sheet metal that came installed between the down pipe and the starter to shield the starter motor from excess exhaust heat. Sometimes they get removed by moronic po's. They really do help this issue. I think you'd find installing a remote relay as already suggested would have more effect on this issue than a distributor upgrade would, especially with a new harness in place. Not having a remote starter relay with new wiring is like cake without the frosting. Cake's good, but...

No, the heat shield is gone.. Yet I am a high torgue starter in place though, would the heat shield still matter?
