scout 80 re-wire

Does anyone know what the average cost to completely re-wire a Scout 80 is? Only labor if I purchase the kit. Next question: should I put the engine in first to re-wire then put the engine.

Most professional shops charge any where from $95 to $125 or more per hour. Multiply that by on average 20+ hours. I'm actually guesstimating on the time frame. But it aint cheap.

Not a real big advantage to not having the engine installed. But it does need to be in place in order to route all the new ignition wires to the distributor, coil, alternator, a/c(if ya plan on it), and the starter. I'm probably forgetting something, but ya get the idea.

You don't wanna try and do the re-wire yourself? I have re-wired my own Scout in the past. And I'm about to do it again on another one of my scouts.

Yep, like scooter said.

Put the engine in first, then wire it.

If you are keeping the truck semi-stock, it's really easy.

I installed this:
xxx

they used to sell a gv-8, which was half the fuses (8), which would work for an 80.
All the wires are labelled, so you simply install the fuse panel & run them where they need to go, and splice them to the lights, blinkers, & what not. (it can be overwhelming when you start out, just take your time & do a few wires at a time. I'd suggest getting wire loom for everything in the engine compartment.

Xxx works as well.

Ask Jeff here if he sells their kits or similar.

IHPA does have a few kits available without the painfull price. I have installed the 14 circuit version into a 69' 800 model, which is somewhat similar to the 80

here's a link to what they have to offer:
