Okay, here is the problem. I have a 1965 1300 1 ton 4x4 ex-fire truck. Awesome ride. I use it to promote my business. The rear end has been making noise for awhile, and it has gotten worse. I pulled the chunk out this morning, and found out the the gears are toast. Strange, because the truck only has 19,000 original miles. So, I am wondering if anyone knows where to get some new gears. That would be the best option. I am hopeful. As I said it is a ra-20. I would like to find 4.30 or a 4.88. :rolleyes5:

That's an IH r-1170 10k# axle. IH built it, so it was exclusive to the breed. That means a limited production. They've been obsolete for a long time. I'm afraid you May have entered the unobtainium zone, at least for new parts. That leaves you on a hard hunt for used parts which themselves could be like hensteeth and likely in similar condition to what you already have. It May be time to consider what axle swap options might be practical and appropriate. Since it is a 4x4 model, obviously the gear ratios must match front and rear whatever way you go. Good luck.

I have a ra-25 in a 1 1/2 ton truck. It is a little bigger I think 13000 or 15000 pound axle, but the measurements seem to be the same as far as width. Will the ra-25 bolt in fairly easy?

That axle is rated at 13,500#. I have no idea as to the ease of swap. You'll have to take careful measurements and perhaps even some pics of the attachment points for comparison between the two. Have you been able to determine any of the axle gear ratios yet?

Well, the gearing is the same. So I am back with the 6.17 ratio. That's a plus for now, but it is still real low. Backing plate width is the same 52 inches, and the spring mount is 40 inches center to center. I guess I will have to find myself a 5 speed over if I want more ground speed.

Hi I have quite a few rear ends from the 50-60s ,matching front and rear from a 69 heavy 3/4 ton,a 62 1 ton rear end,60 3/4 ton rear end,have a 5 spd from a 50s big truck was mated to a 6 cyl,
