Oil change questions

1978 Scout II terra, 345 with two drain plug oil pan and non-stock oil filter.

Haven't changed the oil in about 2 years and haven't changed the filter in about 4 years. (less than 800 miles on both) oops.

Question 1. What size are the drain plugs.the drain plug seals leak and I would like to have new ones on hand before dropping the oil.

Question 2. I had the part number written down for the oil filter but have since lost it and can't find the napa receipt. I have a wix filter on now and it's about twice as long as the stock filter. Also the threaded part of the filter housing is a larger diameter than stock. Would this be a load star filter or was there an extended capacity filter set up for light line engines?

Thanks

Found my old post (2006) from bp that had the filter number listed. Which also means it's been about 6 years since I changed the filter. Oops.

My truck uses wix 51797

That's a bit of an interval wes! Just an fyi in case you care...the standard size threaded oil filter for IH sv8's crosses over to numerous fomoco land yachts and light trucks of the late 60's thru 80's with v8 engines. That's sometimes an easier way of sourcing the part.

I'm curious as to how you secure this larger oil filter to the stock adapter housing if the female threaded portion of the filter is a larger diameter the the male threads on the housing. What obvious detail am I missing in this scenario?

I don't know about the drain plug size.

I've put less than 2000 miles on the Scout since I bought it in 05....but yeah, time interval... Oops. Time flies when your married with children.

My filter problem was the opposite. The small diameter female opening on the purolater l30001 filter would not thread onto the much larger male thread of the housing. Apparently a po swapped on the larger loadstar setup or my engine is not original. Here's a pic of my filter.

Probably a 345 from a loadstar / etc.

You can (or could) get a 2 quart oil filter for the "standard" oil filter adapter - do not have the part number.

Drain plug is probably 1/2 inch -- should be able to find plastic gaskets in the "help" section or oil filter section...
