Ohm Speficic Wires

Here is the shakedown. I have a 71 Scout II 810 (yes it is verified) 345 stock. I bought an ez kit 18 fuse 21 circuit harness (http://ezwiring.com/wiring_harness.html) and want to make sure I have everything for the project.

While reviewing the wiring diagram in my service manual (International truck service manual Scout II cts 2304 page 2557) I noticed the ohm specific wires and their lengths called out in the notes. They are circuit 16 15: ignition coil to connector 72 inches and 18 ohms and circuit 1 15: generator to connector 60 inches and 10 ohms. Does the ez kit cover this need, I feel like it is a reach even asking. Basically what do I need to do?

As far as the overall installation goes I will be assisting in the process because I am not an electrical guy, maybe I will be after this project. Anyways, what Scout anomalies or issues will I be up against? Any input will be much appreciated because I know this is not a quick ordeal.

Also I am keeping the original gauges and want to know what is the best way to connect the old with the new wires or any other tricks to help the process. Thanks!

If you are retaining the breaker points ignition and not upgrading to a breakerless conversion, the points will require a ballasted feed. This is the purpose of the specific length wire run for circuit 16. The ohm figures are actually 1.8 rather than 18 and 1.0 rather than 10 respectively. Since you are performing a wiring upgrade, which will eliminate the oe insulated resistor wire, what you can do is purchase a porcelain ballast resistor from an auto parts store with a verified value of approximately 1.8 ohm. Find a spot on the firewall to attach the resistor and interrupt the ignition key "on" circuit which goes to the coil + terminal with the resistor.
I believe circuit 1 is what's known as an exciter for the alternator. I believe you can simply connect an led bulb to that circuit with a 1.0 ohm value so that the alternator gets properly excited.
 
Trever is correct here, no aftermarket wiring system will have all correct wire runs for every vehicle, there is always going to be additional work added!

It's simple enough to also pull the resistive wire runs out of the oem harness and recycle 'em if they are still usable.

The actual value for the ignition "run" circuit for a breaker point distributor setup is anywhere between 1.4 and 2.0 ohms. I have no idea where you can locate a piece of "resistive" wire for running a new circuit, I gave up on locating that stuff several years ago and nowadays simply use a common ballast resistor from the parts house.

I'd also highly recommend that you install an aftermarket starter relay to your system at the same time, that thread is located here:

For making the simple splices of wire, I always use plain old butt splices and similar items, with no solder or any other form of treatment.

I would like to ditch the points and get a pertronix kit (I believe it is a 1481 kit for the curved point distributor). Is there a link which takes you through the upgrade?

Is pertronix the best fit for a stock 345 with a Holley? Since I am doing a wire upgrade are there any other appropriate upgrades to address while I have the thing torn apart?
 
I would never consider doing several upgrades or changes all at the same time!

Do one system at a time so that you know it's correct when completed, then go on to the next.

Good point michael. After I get the wiring harness and the pertronix installed are there any other aspects of the wiring that I should upgrade?
