Hey, nice to be back. First post in a while. A lot has happened on the Scout since last post. 1976 Scout, 345, 2 bbl. As far as I know it is the original transmission (automatic)
recently I noticed that shifting through gears was getting stiff. Since I had owned it no service had been done so I took that as a sign that it was due. However, when I got to work the next morning the stiffness had gotten so bad that the shifter cable snapped as I attempted to put it into park.
Since then I have dropped the pan to check for any obvious problems and changed fluid/filter. The old filter had a couple flakes of metal in it, but was really better than I expected. No loose parts sitting in the pan. I can still drive it with no problems in all forward gears, and put it into neutral. But I cannot even push the shifter forward past neutral.
So, I am either looking for a tip on diagnosis or/and any recommendations on an honest transmission shop in portland.
