Welcome to the forum. I suggest perusing any pertinent threads in this section if you haven't done so already. You should get the torqueflite a727 handbook by carl munroe and/or a factory service manual for your Scout. As far as special tools, a trans jack comes in real handy for removal and installation. A parts washer is great for cleaning all the parts once you have it torn down. You'll need some small picks for removing seals from their lands. You'll need some type of compression tool such as a large c-clamp or valve spring compressor to compress the front and rear servo pistons in their bores. You need a clean workspace free of dust, pet hair, and assorted shmootz, especially when you get into the valve body. You'll need an 8-point socket and an inch-pound torque wrench for the band adjustment screws. A foot pound torque wrench that can be adjusted down to 6 ft/lbs (72 in/lbs) will suffice if a inch/lb version can't be sourced. You'll want to pop for a reman torque converter. Your existing one will satisfy the core charge. IHPA sells a B&M brand trans in a box which includes the master overhaul kit and a shift reprogramming kit all in one package. I've installed one in a buddy's Scout. Pretty good quality and value.
