I think everyone is on the same page already, but for clarification (hopefully), when speaking of a Scout II, the item on the column where the key is inserted is the key tumbler, often mistaken for the ignition switch, yet it is not. As already mentioned, in this configuration, the ignition switch is lower on the column and is actuated by a plunger rod which serves as the link between the key tumbler and the actual ignition switch. Bear in mind that there is more than one variation of this switch, with the primary difference being standard column versus tilt column. They appear similar, yet do not interchange. Early sii versus later sii could also have some bearing. Make sure you get the right switch for your application.
