Howdy to all, I'm keith from lake county. I have a 65 red carpet Scout, signed up in nov. 09 and just getting around to this part. I'm not too sharp on computers,so this is a first for me. I've had my Scout for about three years now and am makeing small changes to it. Ive installed a 196 and 31 inch tires, so with the overdrive I'm only turning about 2000 at 60 mph, so it's a good dd. I'm still on the Dana 27s with 427 gears, and would like to keep it pretty much stock, however I just broke my second axle, so I need to make sure I'm not the cause somehow, or perhaps it's just dumb luck. We'll see if I can get some advice in the proper thread, and attemt to load a picture.

My name is hunter gallant im 17 and live in cameron park, CA about 35 minutes east of sacramento up highway 50. Love baseball, fishing, hunting, camping, and anything IH. Well I am slowly building up my Scout 800. Just recently completed a spring over on Dana 44 front and rear with front disks on 33x12.5's. Next step a little more power and a little better crawl ratio. Im working on sliders and a swing out tire carrier as of now.

Found this site through bp and binder bench. Grew up learning to drive at 9 yrs old on a '64 80 Scout. Lots of fond memories growing up camping and fly fishing with Dad in that 'ol girl which he gave to me in high school. Graduated from the '64 in short order to a '76 Scout II and dropped a 4" Skyjacker lift on it w/ 33s. She got me everywhere I wanted to go through college with many more fond memories including teaching my wife how to drive. Sold it after I left for the usmc in 2000 and ended up getting into early broncos when I was stationed in san diego as I longed for my convertible 4x4 again. I've currently got a built '69 Bronco & a '68 crawler project for hitting the rubicon w/ my family of 6 (stretch w/ 3rd row added). In searching for a daily driver upon our return to norcal I came across "griswold"! 1967 Travelall 1100b 4x4. Bought it long distance a couple weeks ago and have been researching to eventually upgrade it as a family hauler/ tow rig for the crawler project w/ possibly some heavier axles and a 392. Pre-smog, 4x4, seats all 6 of us and our trash and should have no problem towing the Bronco/s to events. Flying home to norcal over halloween to pick'er up and get'er back on the road/ trail. Can't wait and look forward to the advice I'll get here!

My name is john and I'm from mammoth lakes CA , originally from la . Was driving to a job site and saw this awesome looking vehicle with a for sale sign on it . The original owner just happin to be standing next to it , $1000 later I drove it home !!!!! Having no idea what I just bought , I looked up scouts online and was amazed to find out that only half a million IH's were ever made , according to wikipedia , and the next web site was ihon !!! That was the summer of '05 . For the last five years I've found so much info here that I've never had to post anything !!!! So now I just want to thank everyone @ ihon for letting us bathe in their fountain of knowledge !!!! :icon_cool:

the IH I found is a 73 Scout II 345 , 727tf , d30 front axle , d44 rear axle , ??tc , factory a/c , ps , pb , cruse control , tow assist and some "workarounds". Just killed the last electrical gremlin !!!!! Damn bulkhead connector !!!!! So now I can focus on upgrades now :ihih: this will be my mountain rig , my play ground is 6000-11000' rarely above 10,000' !!! The Scout II is still fully stock with the exception that I ditched the a/c , cruse control , the tow assist (converting to disk brake's in the near future) and all the "workaround's" . It's been my daily driver for the summer (hard top off) till the steering rag joint went out ...... Look out:yikes: !! So now that I'm waiting for my part I decided to do my valve and oil pan gasket's (fel-pro p/n qs12481r and qvs12484r) and while I have them off I am attempting to paint !!! I'm an electrical contractor not a painter ...lol . Anyways will post pic's soon !!! G2g for now

I have family in mammoth lakes and my Scout came from a lady who lives just north of crowley lake. It sat in the field behind her house for 15 years till I heard about it from it's previous owner that was the schots family who owns woods lodge at lake george.

Ty !! Lol yep over looking crowley onto the white mountain's !!! Don't know the schots family personally but george is one of my favorite fishing holes !! There are a few IH's still up here !! I have the only daily driver thou ,two others Scout's are being used for plow's :icon_cry: one of those Scout plows is for sale in bishop just 50 miles south of here going to look at today :) I'll keep you posted .
 
Guess I missed this part and went straight for the main course. This is my sixth Scout. My grandfather owned an International dealership so needless to say this is what I know. Drove a 79' through high school and college and then went on the road so had to give up my girl (in storage) for quite a few years. Took a contract in wy and low and behold had a good reason to buy a Scout (gotta have 4wd baby :ihih:). Bought a rotted out tub that ran like a scalded cat and then picked up this beaut in id (I wanted to start with a good tub)...so here we go again. Hope my wife makes it through this

I live in brownsburg the west side of indy. Good to know that there is someone else that lives in indiana that has a Scout also. As of now the only thing I am in need of, is a repair book, to show me how to fix the lift gate, latching. Mine is stuck open and it will not latch when closed.

I found your other post where you have pictures of your rig. Very nice! Do you know the history? Where did you find one that nice in the midwest??

I have most of the trim and clips from my Scout. I removed them when I was rebuilding it. They're yours if you want them or I can just send you a few clips.

I'd guess your latch has a broken spring inside. They're pretty easy to remove. Just start unscrewing screws that look like it holds it in and eventually it'll all come out. If I remember right it's a pretty tight fit to get it out though. I have the manuals for my '79 but I'm not sure they'll have a lot of detail about the lift gate latch in them. I'll look. I'm sure Jeff can hook you up with another if you find it's broken.

But...watch out for "daveeboy" up there in the north part of the state, he just seems friendly 'cause he wants to git ya up there to mow grass and move snow around.

And he's the only dude I know that has domino's pizza delivered to the local cemetery...ask him about that!

The issue regarding the Scout II lift gate latching system is encountered on all of these rigs! Very common. Both of the published and available Scout II service manuals address the how-to. But once you get the handle removed (be very careful, those are valuable!), you also need to remove and service the latches on each side of the liftgate frame.

No doubt you can figure this out without a manual, the bigger issue is simply removing the mounting hardware which can be rotted in place!

Daveeboy has gone through all this kinda stuff over the years and it certainly would behoove ya to hook up with him at some point! I'll vouch for him and his posse, they are the real deal! The "domino's at the cemetery" is kinda strange though....

thanks for a great site! Found out about you on the outdoor channel...trucks! Or extreme 4x4, not sure which now, but am I glad to have found a place to help me with some stuff to rebuild my 74 Scout. It is my first brand new vehicle I got while still in high school..oops did I date myself? Well I still got it and have the 345 modified with parts supplied by sherman balch. Heads are ported/polished, shaved 110/thousanths, mallory dual point yl distributor, hooker headers, isky full race cam, 392 intake topped with a 750 double pump Holley. 727 torqueflite, B&M valve body replaced the 4 speed, and tci 3000 stall converter. Did a lot of racing with it but its body is infested with termites and needs a lot of skin work. I've got most of it but have got a lot of other mechanical issues to deal with since it hasn't been on the road in 10 or 12 years. I believe I will be a regular as soon as I get going on it.
Oh, and my Dad was a dealer of International trucks for many years until his passing and then I was active in the dealership from 1974 on until International decided to drop the light truck division, a sad departure I must say. However this site and many dedicatedowners and collectors will help preserve the heritage of great American made trucks and cars. Thanks for the priveledge of joining a great forum.

Hey guys anxiously waiting for the painter to get done with my new project. (po was in middle of getting Scout painted and decided to sell, good for me)
it's a '69 Scout 800 v8 304,automatic 4x4 I'll post picks once I actually get it.
The po had already had the engine and trans rebuilt replaced the seats frt and rear with new bestop cj units, interior is bedlinered and he installed a new wire harness in vehicle. He was fixing to start doing axle and suspension upgrades and his wife said to stop. I went and drove it and looked it over pretty good I didn't spot and rotted floor pans or body panels from the bottom side he said it didn't have any before they painted it. Steering, suspension and brakes worked but definitely had seen better days. I have been all over the internet trying to decide what my master plan is.
I found y'all thru google.
This is my first Scout always had jeeps in past I currently drive a 2007 jk on 37" mud grapplers. I would really like to make my Scout a daily driver on 33 or 35's and make my jk the toy. I hate to beat the body up on a classic. Plus it's just cooler to drive something old everyday.

Well I have been stoking all the IH web site for some time, & a few weeks ago I happen to see a scoutdude80 in a post, on another web site. That was a member & lived in the bay area, so I send him a email with questions on hes Scout & if he knew of anyone that work on IH in the bayarea "san jose" he reply & ask to join IH north,& said he owns a duali, so here I am.

I have a 69 Travelall that runs some what!!! Or some times!! And
a 61 b100 with 32,000 miles. That I will have to part of with shortly.

Well, with life and family I dont have much time to work on the traveold, but reading all the post inspire me work on my rig.

I have to thank all the senior member for all the knowledge they poor in this site. You guys make the experience much better.
 
I got my first IH in 87 and have had six along the way. I currently have a 71 Travelall 4x4 and a 64 c1300 4x4. The 64 is highly modified and I use it to run some gnarly trails.

Found out about this site from people I run the rubicon with,some of them are on here.

my name is Jeff, live in northeast nebraska. I have a '74 that I bought from my brother about 15 years ago, he had it for around 5 before that. It was my daily driver till about 6 years ago, since then it has mostly been a hunting rig.

I've been hanging out here for a while, doing a bunch of reading.
The way that things have been going the last couple of years my Scout has gotten kind of neglected, and I want to get it back into shape. I've always wanted to fix it up, but with the kids and other things there never seemed to be anything left to spend on it. Still isn't, but I've got to do something.
