While on my so called restoration journey with the 1200c travelette, I like others have found no acceptable wheel options are available. The steelies that companies fab up are just ugly. The problem is the lug pattern which is the 6 on 7-1/4 aka the big 6 pattern used on older dodge and IH light line trucks prior to 1969.
After having a lengthy conversation with some good friends in the wheel industry we have decided that it is about time to have one or two styles of wheels patterned and cast. They will be the hd 3000-3400 lb rating needed by the 3/4 to 1 ton trucks.
The major considerations are.
1) selling price.
2) wheel diameter 16 and 17"
3) wheel width 8 and 10"
4) back spacing
5) style
a. Something like an alcoa with round holes.
B. A slot wheel (kidney bean)
c. A d like the halibrands and et wheels.
D. Lets have some recommendations from the guys who might be interested..
Just think how cool it would be to go out and buy a nice set of made in the usa wheels for our old IH for a good price. Right now that is not an option. The split or 3 piece wheels they came with are becoming harder and harder to get serviced and in some cases dangerous. We all know a good wheel has a price but in most cases the wheel can make a truck look bad azz.
The more feed back the more apt we would be to take the plunge and bank roll a project like this.. The ideal situation would be to have enough volume to offer the wheel at a normal price. The wheels will be cast and machined right here in the usa... No chinese crap..
So lets hear what you think and what would be the appropriate style..
