Needed: 1" pipe die

Anyone have a 1" pipe die? And the die holder/hanlde thingy..

I need to run some natural gas pipe at my place and it would sure be handy to have the correct tools :d

also, anyone have any tips to running gas lines? A contractor friend of mine recomended the 'pink' teflon tape that they make especially for gas. He also recommended plan it all out, measure 3x, cut once.

Thanks!

I believe I have what you are looking for chris. I will not be able to double check until tomorrow. How soon do you need it?

The next few weeks -- I have no furnace, thus no heat, until I get the job done... It doesn't bother me - but amber likes heat

thanks!!!!!!!!!

I've run a few gas lines back in the day. I can lend a hand if ya need one, but I don't have the tools anymore.
I prefer to use teflon paste, it seals better and ya get it all over everything! They make some specific for gas lines. At least they did 20 some years ago. Rector seal is one brand I remember.

How is it I can remember useless crap like that, but not things that matter?:mad5:

I will get out to the garage and check tomorrow after work. I have the tools, I just cant remember if I have a 1" die.

On metallic pipes, I.e. Gas pipe most plumbers have gone to using both pipe dope (teflon paste) and the teflon tape on every joint. They are both cheap and no one likes a gas leak. If I am only using one I tend to lean to the dope, seems to make a longer lasting better seal.

Why 1" black iron??? That's kinda "large"!

I have a rigid 1/2" and a 3/4" pipe die set with handle here. We're coming up to newport early (like 5ayem) Friday morning to go fishing on dave's charter boat. I can leave the set somewhere convenient for ya to pick up then if needed. Just tell me where and I'll make it happen.

I also use the teflon dope nowadays along with tape on all this pre-threaded chinee galvanized shit fittings, the quality is so poor it won't seal other wise. Any rector seal product is fantastic pro-grade stuff!

I had my system spec'd out by a real deal gas dude -- he wanted $1800 to do the job - so I figured he must be legit... So far I an in it about $35... :dita:

anyway - the btu chart showed 1" supply for what we have planned in the future. No sense in doing it in 3/4", which would be fine for today, then not having enough supply in 2 years when we add another device.

Gotcha!

There was a 1" die that was included with the large portable pipe vise I loaned to someone about 10 years ago...no tellin' where that is now...don't even know who it was!

The 3/4" set I use about three times a year to bail out neighbors.

Yore welcome to the handle if ya wanna invest inna die!

I just hit up home depot over lunch - they want $68 for the handle and $60 for the 1" die. Way cheaper than having someone else do it -- but $128 I'd rather not spend on a job I will do once.

So if monte comes through I owe him a beer or 10!

No beer required, but maybe some help with the TBI when the time comes.

did monte have the 1" pipe die??? Do ya need the ratchet handle??

Mike I will look tonight. I could not check on it last night because it was bowling night (that usually means I will be home far to late and will not get the required hours of sleep needed to function properly the next day). I have the handle, reemer, and several dies tucked away in the garage. I am 99.9% sure I have the 1" die.

Ok chris, I have your stuff. Are you leaving for naches tomorrow? Do you want to wait until you get back? I can bring it to work and you can pick it up there. DSC00250.jpg
