Just got a major upgrade with fuel injection. My alternator seems to have a bad rectifier bridge. I have seen 2 types of new alternators. some are 63 amp ans other are only 42 amps. I do have the external regulator setup in my truck. Any recommendations why one over the other would be better?

A quick web search reveals that there are far more amp output variations of the Delco 10DN externally regulated alternator than just the two you mentioned. In fact, there are many after market versions available with output ratings well above 100 amps. If you have not already added more power consuming accessories and don't plan to in the future, you would probably be fine to go with the low output option as that is probably what came stock. If on the other hand, you have a few more electrical whizz bangs installed, then it wouldn't hurt to have a modest increase in alternator output to better keep up with the demand. I would caution against opting for a very high output version, unless your wiring harness has been upgraded with modern wiring and circuitry protection. Your ancient stock wiring, even if in better than average shape, should not be trusted to handle a high output alternator.

Appreciate your response. I ended up ordering a 62 amp online. I will attempt to replace it myself next week.

Suggestion: Be sure to disconnect the Negative (-) battery terminal prior to your work, and reconnect only after the new alternator is in and complete.
