My turn - need a Scout II 727 cross member

Anyone got a straight one? Dropped (or rather, lifted) a fresh maybenized tranny into the Scout last weekend and discovered the cross member is bent pretty good.

He didn't maybenize the cross member for ya whilst he was at it? Dude is really slippin' in his old age. No way jerry wudda let him get away with that half-azz garbage! Its too far gone for torch, bfh and anvil luvin'? Sorry, no spares down here in fat white kuntry.

I've got one you can have. It might have a ding in it too. I'll dig it up tomorrow and see. If you can't find one locally, its standing by.

Thanks trev. If the fat whiteys don't have one I May be in trouble! I think I just about killed Mike on this job - that's a no-fun swap when you're laying on a concrete floor with no lift! :frown2: that was a first - and last - for both of us I expect.

Plus I was on a time limit - I think Mike's forgotten what that means so he likely thinks I'm The one who's crazy. But we'll keep the truth between ourselves. And jerry. So no real time to try to heat it and beat it, and it's slightly bowed front-to-back so I'm not sure a hammer alone would have done it. Maybe a press or something, which I don't have. So before I try to get someone to bend it right for me I figured I'd check for a straight replacement locally.

Dealbreaker: thanks! I'm thinking the cost of shipping something that long & heavy from cali (I'm in oregon) might make trying to straighten my current one more sensible if I can't find a local one. I appreciate you checking your stash

Don't lay the botched tranny crossmember on me this time!

That was badly damaged in an abrupt stop at some point before Matt snaked this rig! There is also damage to the front spring hangers because of this. In fact, we were going to do a rework of the spring setup several months back when all this transmission stuff started and have yet to make that happen.

My stroke kinda put a hold on this but I was finally able to get a tranny built and a time set for the swap.

The repair/beef-up of the front suspension will be done after Binder Bee this time.

You know I'm only flikken ya road apples papa! Dam glad yer still in one piece...or at least as close to it as ya was afore the event. We need to talk soon. I'm dealing with a major life crisis (non-medical) which has turned me upside down and every whichy way so much that I can't even fully fathom at this point. Jerry's even speechless and that don't happen often.

Actually I have to confess that the front spring hangar is my bad: I whacked a low curb at 30+ mph a couple years ago, and thanks to the ingeniously-engineered Scout II front shackle setup :icon_eh2: the force of the impact ran straight back and into that spring hangar.

The cross member, however, was already hammered by a po when I bought the Scout! I just didn't realize how bowed it was up and down as well as front to back until we got it off at your place. I May see if a machine shop can straighten it for me, or maybe call a couple local boneyards if no one has a spare close by. I need to get it straightened and put a new rpt tranny mount under that smokin' new slushbox you worked your magic on.

I have one I promised to carl, but he has never come and got it. It needs to leave, come and get it.

Izzat alright with carl? I don't wanna move in on someone else's steel... ;)

Totally okay :d. It just never came together for me to get out there. I didn't "need" it, as it was more of a convenience thing. I'd rather see it goes where it's needed.

Sweet! Thanks carl.

Monte, pm me your address. I'll look at the sched and arrange a pick-up time.

Thanks fellas!
