MV-446 to 7.3ltr swap

HI there. First post for me. Appreciate any guidance.

I have a 2000 F-250 Ford that is rusted beyond reasonable repairs but runs very well. I also have a 1979 S-1924 medium duty International truck with an MV-446 that runs well but really likes (in copious amounts) gasoline. My question is will the flywheel housing bolted to the rear of the MV engine bolt to the rear of the 7.3ltr diesel? The engines, (from outward appearance) look very similar. Really no problem to source a T444E if needed as have one of those located also. The F-250, and IH truck I already have and would like to marry them up if possible.

Thanks,

Thanks, from basic measurements they have the same block dimensions but without pulling both engines, I can't tell if they have the mounting bosses, or drill and tapped bosses for mounting the flywheel housings to the back of the block(s).

I've read from several sources, and have come to the conclusion, "Maybe". Not real helpful but appreciated all the same. The original MV-446 is destined for a cousin's truck with a knocking MV-404 and if the Power Stroke engine can be used in an air compressor gas to diesel conversion, I will use the flywheel housing from the MV-404 and a new SAE pattern flywheel to couple the air end to the engine.

I started the Power Stroke yesterday after installing batteries and it fired right off after setting several months. It is a good engine I'd really like to make use of in this project though grossly overpowered for the application. The trans/transfer case have a destination and if the "Detroit Locker" rear differential I installed several years ago will fit my 2008 F-350, it too will have a place to go.

IIRC, the MV-404 and MV-446 engine architecture was used for the IH 6.9 and 7.3 diesels at the IH Indianapolis Engine Plant.

If you could document the engine mount & flywheel housing adaptor etc. during your work, then everyone will know for sure.

I've not had time to move on this project myself but the chassis destined for the MV-446 engine has the original MV-404 engine pulled now. This is a cousin's truck and they are going to come up and pull the MV-446, (possibly this weekend) to get that truck back into service before planting commences. I'll have the MV-404 for the parts after ensuring they have what they need for the other truck. They will be bringing the MV-404 engine with them. Trying to finish up a job now so I can extract the Power Stroke engine from it's chassis, but that seems an uphill battle at this time.

Camera ceased functioning on the phone so need to order another but I do heavily photo, and document anything worked on in the repair fields I've involved with. This project will be no exception.

Both engines pulled and MV-404 flywheel housing bolted to the 2000 Power Stroke engine without modifications. MV-446 should be operational later today, or tomorrow in receiving chassis. Now need to extract electrical harness(s) from F-250, breadboard it down to retain only what is needed in the new application of the engine, and discard the remaining.

Also appears by measurements there will be ample space to incorporate the CAC behind the original grille of the enclosure. I may need to tig weld hose nipples/necks differently, but that's nut much of a problem to do.
