It might be more of issue with my head than the truck. I'm having a hard time getting used to these vacuum readings on the new engine. I'm tuning for efi now so I'm looking at them during all my drives. 15hg is about max. Mostly just wanted to make sure I didn't adjust the valves too tight, losing any additional vacuum that might be had.

the lifter is only effected by oil pressure through put the plunger range. So long as you have not mechanicaly bottomed and not blocking the oil inlet holes the preload position will make no difference.
what cam did you end up going with? If its the split duration isky cam the most vacuum that I have ever gotten on that one was 15.5" and that was after extensive tuning performed by bill hamilton himself.
