Mike Mayben 727 band adjustment 101 class

Thanks for the parts swaparoo offer terry, we both win on that deal!

I'm available near any time, so yawl just work it out amongst yoreselves and tell me when to be there!

I know you have already done mo's drain and fill so prolly no need for that one. But best case as we've discussed is a running rig so that the complete "kickdown band access" issue onna sii can be fully experienced by all!

I'll bring torko's tranny assembly back down here for full attention, though we could pop the pan off at yore place if the kidz wanna see what one of those looks like inside as compared to a plain old 727???

so, when do we want to do this? Monte, your call, since you started this whole thing.

Does Saturday the 17th work????

Works for me. Just tell me what time and green and I will be there.

Mike what do I need to get for this course? Red stuff and a filter and gasket?

"about" five quarts atf for a stocker...maybe more, maybe less. Pan gasket and filter. If the gasket is rubber or rubber/cork composite, then I use permatex #97 or gascacinch. If the gasket is cork or cork/rubber composite, then the #97 or hylomar. Do not use hylomar onna rubber gasket.

If..anyone needs to replace the two shifter seals at the same time (recommended), then the hump does need to come out, no way around that! I can bring the seal sets and tools for r&r. The set of seals runs about $5 for the two. I also have the ihon-supplied replacement clamps for an sii shift cable in case any are damaged, but I don't keep new shift cables here.

I'll also have a 5/16"x18 helicoil kit with me 'cause I promise someone will have a stripped pan bolt thread!

We'll need a large drain pan and a gallon or so of naptha or paint thinner, I'll bring the spray gun. It's terry's shop so I don't know what he has/uses for parts washing??

And of course, I'll have whatever tools are needed for this with me if needed.

I'll get the fluid and the gasket set (from napa). Green already has a drain plug installed, so fluid drainage will be less messy.

I have a large (3 gal) drain pan and the standard hf issue 10 gallon parts washer.

You guys work out the schedule for this thing and I'll do some shop cleaning.

Mike with all of this knowledge stuck in your head we need to start thinking about how to preserve all that info. I think we need to put you in a tube next to walt disney when you go. I think it is cheaper if we just preserve your head though, all we really need is just your brain and mouth. :dita: I propose starting up a fund at binder u for just this purpose.

Any donations?:icon_eek:

I have a 5 gallon dewar of liquid nitrogen here at bt.
We can do our own cryo right here! Maybe I can start a new sidline...:icon_eek:

If we freeze Mike then we have to thaw him out to get any information from him. And given our budget he would be very prone to freezer burn.

A better solution would be to clone him but I have a strong suspicion that the national security office has him on the cloning ban list, probably homeland security as well. Chances are this post is already flagged and the black helicopters are flying over my house right now for even talking about cloning Mike.

The truth is that if we loose Mike one of us has to get his hands on that damn palm pilot, nokia, and computer. Mike has already had the contents of his brain downloaded and split between those three devices. That's why he looks a little lost some times.

Most everthang is in one or two hard drives...the real kind, not the one 'tween my ears.

And shortly I'm gonna auction off the contents while I kin still remember where the hds are.

I filed for ss last week, so that means I need tha auction proceeds afore obamassiah the one gives all my ss stash to the "home for shithaid illinois politicos and other worthless bastards"...or the "clintonista fambly libury". That woman in the blue dress iz gonna do a fundraiser for me...I guess that's what she meant when she sed she wuz gonna raise up sumthin'?? I gotta big bag o' jeans (gene's?) ready ta drop at st. Vinnee's tonite, so no need ta freeze /em they'll be spread all over springtukee tomorrow.

1/17 works for me...it's all down hill after that anyhoo.

Perfect opportunity to snap a few photos of the man in action!!

Still not quite sure how the naphtha and gun thing work.

I just did a drain and fill on the trany, needed to get the mechnic in a can out :yikes: live an learn. :dita:

If there is anyone wanting to attend this class that is unfamiliar with the binder u north campus at rancho do nada, shoot me a pm and I will get directions to you. Class space is limited so sign up now!

I guess the professor should set the start time according to his schedule.

I'll be there at 9ayem...yeah...I kin do shit like that if I have to!

Craig...here's a "typical" preliminary operation using the solvent and siphon gun. This is a sii/727 core I just drug in from chris' stash, gonna use the valve body for the ejukashun project and then set it up with a tf-2 kit so I'll have one on the shelf ready to go. With the valve body on the bench, it takes me about 2.5 hours to sterilize, install the shiftshit, sterilize agin, and re-assemble.

For installing the shift kit, the only mods made to the case include driving in two cup plugs in designated locations in the case, all other work is done on the valve body itself.

Regarding sii/727 applications...two different tranny/valve bodies were used, one is referred to as the "full throttle kickdown" version, the later one is called the "part throttle kickdown" unit. The tf-2 instructions are very clear in how to handle each type of valve body.

Because this valve body change was a "phased in" kinda deal, ya May also see that design change in some '74 or '75 fullsize rigs, the only way to determine that is to physically look at the valve body, ya can't just trust "numbers".
