Mating a 4L80e to a V-392ic...

Howdy.

1972 1110 Travelall V-392 improved cooling. Motor coming out soon for rebuild or (more likely) a replacement with a remanufactured 392. Figures this would be a good time to do some other major work to the Travelall that I'd thought of to make it into a better grocery-getter and trailer-hauler.

Interested in mating a 4L80e to the new 392, and I know that IHPA sells the AA adapter kit. Just wondering what else I need to plan on doing when I swap the old 727 out for the 4L80e.

With the divorced t-case (dana 20), will I need a 4WD transmission?

Will I need a new primary drive shaft, or will the stock one work?

Transmission cross-member/mount suggestions?

Will I need an aftermarket transmission controller?

What torque converter should I go with?

Will it talk via a cable to the current factory speedo, or will I need a digital to analog converter box?

3.73 gearing in the diffs (Dana44's) and planning on 31-33" tires. Will that work?

Any other issues I should be on the lookout for?

Thanks. Any info would be appreciated!

Is the Scout a 4x4? If so, then you have a different situation to tackle than the OP with his divorced t-case, as yours is married to the transmission.

Can the OP please update this thread ..
Kind of wanting to see how this swap went down .. ?

Just off the top of my head, you would need for a Travelette/ travelall.

-Adapter to the engine from IHPA/ AA
-2WD 4L80E (33" long) or 4WD (29" long) depends on if your tcase is married or divorced (the 727 is only 23" long)
-New shifter or extra gate added to your shift plate
- (if divorced)New jack shaft likely to mate between tcase and trans (might have to move the tcase back if the jack shaft gets too short, which means new drive shafts all around)
- (if married) AA/ Novak 4l80 to dana 20 adapter. Likely new driveshafts.
-Stand alone controller for the 4 speed and an overdrive lock up switch.
-Speed output all depends on what gauges youre running, and if youre running a transfer case speedo cable. (will need a longer cable likely)
-Stock converter is likely fine, but may have to go lower for the IH power band. (stock truck stall 1600-1800 RPM)
-Gearing is fine.
