Lost Gauges and Left Tail Light

I'm not sure if these two issues are related or not but started this afternoon.
My oil and fuel gauge are dead and my left tail light is dead. The tail light does not function at all. All other lights seem to be working properly. The bulb is fine, I even swapped them. Dash turn signal lights work with flashers.
Is there a connection or coincidence between the gauges and left tail light?
Thanks

Most likely no relation at all between the two, other than they derive their power from the same battery. Like beating a dead horse, 9 out of 10 binder guys will tell you to examine your grounds first. They are the root of most electrical issues.

I jiggle wiggled a random wire under the rear bumper and now my gauges work. Still no tail light. So it looks like that's where I'll be spending some more time.

Interesting coincidence. The only common point between the gauges and the rear harness are the two wires for the fuel tank sender. One is a ground and the other is the sender wire to the fuel gauge.

Ahhh. There was/is also wiring for a 4-pin back there. If you look at the schematics in your manual for the taillights/side marker lights/dash guage lights, you will see a 15a section of the circuit. If that wire is hot with the ignition set to run and it grounds out you May loose quite a bit more than that. Any wires "hanging out" need to be dead headed and taped. Oh yeah the hot (running lights) is green. :sosp:
