Linkage problems?

My 77 scout II transfer I belive is a dana 20 will shift into 4w low and work fine, but in 4w high the front shaft doesn't turn, in 2w high it just acts like its in nuetral and doesn't seem to lock into 2w, in 4w high it only moves the rear wheels. I have an auto 727 tranny. The shifter feels like it locks in 4w low and 4w high but i can't feel where nuetral or 2w drive is in the linkage. I have removed the bottom cover and don't see any broken parts and the gears look good no broken teeth, also no metal on the drain plug or in the pan they look clean. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There are two rails and two shift forks in the D20. An interlock pill allows the two rails to be manipulated by the single shift lever to achieve the various functions. Earlier versions of this gearbox had dual shift levers, one for each rail and fork that could be manipulated independant of one another. I suspect that something may be fouled with your shift rail connectivity.

I agree I'll look into this I was able to loosen up the shifter just by using it more its been sitting a long while. Thanks for the reply.
