LD`s Custom Scout II

seeing that this build was performed several years ago I do not recall exact dimensions and tube material used on it.

As for using dual shocks it is done for looks, handling or depending on the type of terrain for better performance from the suspension over sustained hi speed use over rough terrain.
Thank you. Don't think I'll be needing dual shocks. Curiousity killing the cat. Mostly of my driving would be daily driving and weekend offroading

Does anyone know what type of mirrors were used on this Scout? I'm looking for similar ones but I've had no luck. The only ones similar I have seen are Ford mirrors used on broncos and f150s.

Thanks!

I think you answered your own question as yes they are Ford mirrors.

Jeff,

when you guys did the dash, did you just cut out the section of the original dash and then weld your round gauge overlay in place? That looks a lot cleaner than cutting out the square dash sockets to make room for the overlay then screwing it in with sheet metal screws.

Thanks!

Yes you are correct on how it was done. When we received the vehicle the dash modification had already been performed however we finished it up.

Jeff, curious if you remember how far back the engine and tranny where moved and if it was moved down on the frame?
Also wandering what height of body lift the truck has? :icon_eh:

If memory serves me correct I believe the engine was moved back 1.5" and down about the same. I don't recall it having a body lift either.

Sorry to keep asking questions, but I am curious if you recall how the clutch linkage was set up after the drive-train was moved?

If you read back thru you'll see that we installed a hydraulic system instead of using a mechanical linkage.

The flaming river steering column any idea or recollection of the size, part number or what to look/ask for when looking for one of these units? I want to put a tilt column in my Scout and I emailed fr asking them for a part number or something to help in my search, I received probably the most juvenile answer from their customer support. Anyways, that neither here nor there (just venting), but if you could provide any info on the column it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you....

Sir, I was wondering if you could post part numbers for the a/c system as I want to use that type of setup. Also how does she sound different with the new rockers

Seats are from a subaru baja.

The steering column is a tilt 33" column. Flaming river does not have specifically made for scouts parts. But alot of the parts are standard and can be adapted to scouts with some measurements and planning. Talk to Jeff . He'll set you up.

The ac system is from vintage air. It's the gen II compact system. Again, this is not a direct replacement for Scout. But can be done with some planning. I remember Jeff told me vintage had a new system that will fit better with less custom work

rockers... Motor spins up pretty damn fast. And it's quiet. I have the ecu governed at 5k rpm . Can't say if rockers added hp because we changed out the cam to a comp 268h at the same time. But I will say this . I like this combo.

Sorry for not having specifics on swap in parts on this vehicle. Parts were fabricated to fit the vehicle and vice versa . Lots of planning, work and patience.

Jeff...... I owe you a call. I've been so buried with work and the home remodel. Will call you this coming week.

What kind of seats are these and where can I find some? I'm in a bind and looking for some that will fit. Thanks in advance for any help.

A cut out valve cover shows a very close tolerance between itself and the rockers.

A little closer view.

I've heard others have had issues with these roller tips contacting the valve cover. Did you run into this issue? If so, how did you handle it?

Sick build btw,

thanks,
jason

The baffles had to be removed from the inside of each cover and a much smaller one fabricated to keep oil from going up and out the breather hose. We also had to sand down some of the rocker arms on the edges to get that extra little bit of clearance. Ideally a 1/8" valve cover spacer with a gasket on either side would be best. I think Robert(jetfxr) had some made. He might have an extra set or can get you a set made??

Great (well, not great) but great info. That's what I wanted to know. My set will be here today so I wanted to be prepared for exactly what I'll run into. I'll be running a blank cover on one side and a arrestor/filler on the other. Spacer is not a 100%. Still working on that.

Thanks Jeff,
jason
