INTRODUCTIONS

Welcome
I'm right across the bay. In the east bay. There's several other scout owners in S.F.

I'm off work for the next 4 days, for the holidays. I may take a day trip, or two, somewhere in my '72 scout

What's up BABS members! New Scout owner, located in San Francisco. '77, 345, 727. Picked it up with almost all the sheet metal replaced and a fresh (albeit hobbyist) coat of paint, so it's solid. Powertrain needs some TLC though. I picked it up a few months ago and have been wrenching here and there since, trying to learn as I go.

Would love to meet some fellow members and check out some rigs!

Happy thanksgiving to all. 🦃
Another SF Scout owner here. Welcome to the club. I’m over in the Haight and I’m around to talk shop. What are your plans for your Scout?

Hi All,
New-ish Scout owner in Santa Clara (1964 Scout 80).
Any shop recommendations for engine/drivetrain swap? My Scout is basically bone stock; 152, dana 27s, etc.
I was running into cooling issues recently and when I went to check on the thermostat I discovered a crack in the intake manifold preventing me from re-tightening everything properly. I don't have much experience repairing nor many tools so this issue is just fast tracking my desire to swap out the drivetrain, axles, fuel tank, and many other things.
I'm reaching out to local shops on my own but happy to entertain recommendations.
Thanks,
Christian

1973 scout II auto, 50k original miles.
I’m in emeryville and love taking it out.
new to the forum, and also need some recommendations for mechanics. Ace automotive in Fairfield is too busy to get into☺

hope to see you all at an event soon!

I'm right up the road from ya, about 5 miles. I have a 72 daily driven scout and a non running 73 scout stuffed in my storage, patiently waiting for me to work on it.

As FD Chappie mentioned, IH parts America, who own this forum, does great work and a good resource for parts. Most of the shops in the bay area seem to be clueless regarding these old IH rigs. I have had to re-work a few things for another scout owner that had crappy work done by a so-called professional 4x4 shop.
Although, for transmission work, precision transmission in Milpitas did good work for me on my torqueflight 727 auto trans.

How do I get the contact info for the forums owner?

Hello,
I just registered on this site. I got my first Scout 80 in 1986 or 87. It is a 62. I did a lot of fun 4 wheel adventures with it in the 80s and 90s. This summer, I bought my second Scout 80, a 64. I live in San Quentin.

'62 Scout 80, 152/T90/Dana 18, not currently running, going through rust repair and resurrection from years of sitting. Got dreams of swapping in a 345 I have sitting in the garage but looking for the 196 swap that will save my sanity.
Out in Livermore.

The Binder I have is a Frankenstein, body is a 54 R-100, running gear is from a 75 1/2 ton GMC 4X4 ..
Built four bolt main 400 SBC, also built 4L85E trans, 203 NP transfer, swapped the GM 12 bolt rear end to a 3/4 ton 14 bolt Corporation. Installed a Detroit Locker in it ...

New name for the truck .... GMC-IH ... Think that stands for; Got Mechanic Coming - Ina Hurry !!

1972 Scout II purchased last year as a project for my 10 year old daughter. Looking for a shop in the Bay Area, I finally got it running and moving on its own power and would like a shop for a safety check

I have 1965 Scout 800A in Campbell, CA. Looking others with 80 or 800 in the south bay to trade rehab ideas.
