as for the fire wagon status...yesterday I pulled the governed distributor down for inspection (it's a Holley version with no tach drive. Didn't pull the gear off so the shaft could be extracted since there is no press up here in Grass Valley (yet), but I will finish disassembly this afternoon down at the shop.
It appears this unit was overhauled in the past and the drive gear was shimmed way too tightly (not allowing for expansion of the body casting due to heat). Hopefully the removal of the gear will free it up and no damage was done to the lower bushing.
The top segment of the unit appears ok and the "spinner valve" still functions, so this was not caused by lack of lubrication through that oiler port at the top.
Be sure to save the p-tron module and send down to Jeff at some point, he can re-install later and then run this distributor if desired.
Before I leave here, we'll make sure the donkey motor starts and runs ok so that the rig can be water-loaded and pressed into service when needed.
Navyjoe had a great time driving it back down from lake francis and we both agree that possibly the firefight apparatus needs to be put onna skid for easy off/on, then a bed-mounted camper can be slung on the azzend!
And navybill is ready to go with an efi setup on it!
Seems strange that it would run as long as it did if it was shimmed to tight. But you are the master. I was always going to FI it also. In fact I have a harness that I started braking down but just never finished it.
