I am backkkk...
So I have gotten home from chile and I am ready to try to tune the carb... But I dont know how. Any chance you can give me the idiots tren long special of how to tune this puppy? (its running Rich enough right now that you can smell the gas if you are in the car behind me...
Thanks,
tren

Welcome back dude. We thought you'd done thowed in the towel and traded yer junk iron in onna vespa. You still sportin' a 2300 or what? It's been so long you oughta refresh us on just what yer dealin' with. Then the carb king will hit you with a whole laundry list of steps to foller. I'm guessing he'll start with making sure your float level is set properly. Then he'll want ya to set yer idle mixture screws.

Chile???? Yawl been guidin' in the southern hemisphere for tha winter season (summer down yonder!)??? Has the noobie kiddo made any first descents yet??? We figgrd we'd just pissed ya off and ya went away and started playin' with more vdubs!

I'm gonna go back and review exactly how I set up yore carb...so I'll be back later and make some comments. Lottsa alkeegazz had flowed under the bridge since we did this about a year ago...and carb setup has changed in the interim based on this fookin' e10 shit.

I want yore job!!! Last meaningful work I did before corporate threw the u.s. Operations out to the welfare system was spend a year in argentina! I could live there easy!

What kind of carb is it and welcome back I some books on a couple different kinds of carbs so if you tell me what kind of carb I May be able to help. Welcome back

Since it's been awhile tren, we're gonna go back and start at the beginning here!

Yawl had some trouble gittin' that dui ignition system under control iirc, we got that all settled and the rig starts now as it should????

But...I'd like for ya to review this thread:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/ignition-tech/2122-ignition-power-timing.html

And then you and yore bro go through that process before we touch the carb! The ignition system must be dialed in and locked down before doing any carb adjustment, not just in your case...but in all cases of tuning for best performance.

Since the rig has been sitting for some time, ya need to insure it has a fresh fuel supply on board for doing all this, then let me know if the fuel you are using is whatever used to pass for "regular" in your market, or is it that fookin' e10 that is killin' us??

Once we're all happy with the ignition setup, we'll move on to the carb dial-in.

Ok so I reread my earlier post... It seems whenever we got close to the dial in the carb phase something else went wrong.

Since we parted ways- the distributor is timed and dialed in.
I will double check it all tonight though.

I put on new stan headers and new exhuast system from the headers back.

We did fix the oiling problem,
the truck drives well it just smells like gas

and until the engine gets to about 200 degrees it hesitates accelerating...

I now have a vacumme guage and am rearin to rock.

The fuel we have is regular - no e10 for me..

I will read the post, check er out and get back with you

Huh? What the snap? Whatchu talkin' 'bout willis and why are you doing it in this thread which has nothing to do with anything you're talking about?

Talking to tren, the original poster. I got a set of Scout doors and other goodies from him off of craigslist a few weeks back

Ok so I am back in the saddle here, I have this pesky job/family that keeps getting in the way of my scouting.

So I went to follow the drive er down the road and tune the ignition thing. But when I gas is, it is still lugging really hard so its making it hard to really dial it in. Is there a base carb tuning I should/can start with to get the carb not dogging then go and do the drive distributor fix, then do the final carb tuning?

Korllach:
yea sorry a guy came and picked up the top that very same day...
Glad the doors and windshield work out for you though.

I had some similar issues with my edelbrock 1406. I ended up having it rebuilt along with new plugs wires and rotor. Runs a lot stronger now. Not 100% but close. I think that is due to the fact I have no juice hooked up to the choke

Tren...the ignition timing must be locked in first, before finalizing the carb. See this sticky in the ignition sub-forum and apply to your engine:

http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/ignition-tech/2122-ignition-power-timing.html

I'm inna campground on nehalem bay on the north oregon coast right now and checking in from a cellphone connection so everything is very slow and fades in and out. I'll check back in here tomorrow evening and see whatcha found out.

Also, set each idle mixture screw to two turns out from seated, that will be real close to the final setting. And make certain that the b+ feed to the choke is operational when the ignition switch is "on". Any carburetor must have a functional choke system in order to perform properly and yours is new!
