Help Save a dozen old Scouts

I'm the guy, here are some pics.

The scrap man is coming tomorrow, but I told the ranch owner to hold off and I would see if I could find some of these old scouts a good home.

Back story; about a year ago I reconnected with an old family friend. Bill is 87 and has a large ranch in northern California. At one time he must have had a thing for scouts because there are about a dozen from the 60's parked around the place. Bill said most of them ran when he parked them. One from 65 just had a rusted out gas tank.

Anyway the guy that does his books took it on himself to call the scrap yard to get these old scouts and a dozen other rigs hauled off (including a diamond t from the 40's).

I really don't know how much interest there is in these old rigs or even if this is the right place to post, (if not please point me in the right direction)

ok it looks like the final count is 10 and a couple of those are just shells.

Someone earlier said this sounds too good to be true, as you can see these are not right out of any showroom. They were ranch rigs and they were drove hard and put away dirty.

I'll cross post to the other forum. Where should I put the thread?

hopefully the scrap man homes in on the ferds and mitsoobitcheez first.

We're starting with tons and tons of heavy equipment. Old bulldozers, loaders, a couple of dump trucks, a boom truck and a very heavy scraper. It will be awhile before we get to these. I hope to find them new homes by then.

Would love to save the Scout 80 (first two pictures) if it gets to where they don't go as a lot. Would love to save more of them but I wouldn't be allowed to live at home anymore.

That seems to be the one everyone wants. I think it was parked because of a hole in the gas tank. And I believe there is a spare engine for that one.

I would be happy to come pick up one next week. I could probably get away with taking two. I would prefer to take the white 800. Would take what I can as I have the space and trailer.

Also, babs folks could borrow my car hauler to grab some others.

Jim

call me if you want someone to grab 1 to 2 next week.

It looks like no one is really interested in buying these all together.
Selling them one by one will take time that I don't really have right now, but I'll do what I can.

It seems everyone wants the 800 or "the best one". I need to get rid of them all.

We found non-op paperwork on five of these yesterday. The others are out of the system but there are pink slips somewhere.

The ranch owners wife was the bookkeeper and she passed last year so finding the pink slips in 65 years of paperwork will be a challenge.

Once I find the pink slips I will get as much information as I can on each Scout from the ranch owner, and then list them one at a time. This will all take time. I will need to research prices and get paid for my time.

Too many projects as it is, along with lack of space prevents me from getting any more projects. Plus, lack of funds on my part is a major factor

why not allow people here to make a direct offer? The ranch owner is going to make more from a direct offer than from the scrapyard and this process will go much faster which is a double win for him. The original point of this thread was to "help save a dozen old scouts." there are people chomping at the bit to do that but it seems like it is turning into a brokering deal rather than a rescue. Get people on site with cash in hand and trailers in tow and let's do this.

*edit*

I read this over and it seemed a little snarky in tone. I wanted to clarify that my post was meant to convey enthusiasm for making this happen....not snark. Sorry if it came off that way.

Somewhere between scrap price and retail price there is probably a good price that would get most of these sold, individually, with little hassle.

It is obvious that you are trying to help your old friend, which I respect and admire. I fear that by trying to help him maximize what he can get from these you will end up creating a ton of work for yourself and probably end up sending most of them to the scrapper in the end anyway.

If you took the price that the you needed for the entire lot and divided it by whole vehicles (not the wrecked junk) you would at least have a bare minimum number for each vehicle. Add something to each one for the hassle of dealing with them individually, add something more to the ones that have titles and double it for the 800 if that is the one everyone wants. Arrange a date or two when you could be at the ranch and make those the dates that buyers would have to be there, with cash, and be done with it.

Again, I respect what you are trying to do for your friend. I just would hate to see these go to a scrapper which would likely start looking like the easiest solution once you start putting a ton of time into this.

Just my two cents, which isn't worth a nickle. Frank (with a single car trailer in napa).

That was much better stated than my clumsy effort. Well done.

How much for the white Scout? What type of engine does it have? Let me know if you can sell separate instead of in bulk
