I just bought a 73 1110 that has been sitting for around 9 yrs and the story the farmer had was his sons blew up the 304 and he thought they replaced it with a 392 out of a 915 combine but he was not sure I dont want to start ordering parts untill I know for sure if it is a 392 or a 392i/c or even a 345 all he knew was it was not the stock motor bc the only reason why he did not finish the swap was bc he did not know where the second heater core hose attached to the engine he thought it was not possible any help would be great

On most IH sv8 engines, there is an id pad on the passenger side of the block just above where the mechanical fuel pump is attached. It might be hard to see, but with the proper amount of light, plus sludge scraping, plus a pivot head mirror, you should be able to see the numbers stamped into the pad. Most 304 engines will have 2bbl carbs as there was no factory original 4bbl intake for that engine, though they are available in very limited quantity on an aftermarket basis. 345's were commonly equipped with both 2 and 4bbl intakes. Most, but not all 392 engines had 4bbl intakes and carbs. The improved cooling (ic) version of the 392 is the only one of the bunch that has the metal coolant transfer tubes penetrate the block rather than the cylinder heads. I'd be surprised if one of those was in a piece of ag equipment, but with ihc, you just never know.

You can look at the tube for the dipstick. There is an upper mounting tab that has 2 holes in it. If it's on the bottom hole it's a 304. The upper hole would be a 345/392 which have a 1/2" taller deck height.

Ok so I got the motor out and found that it is a 304 but my wifes uncle had a 345 that I paid $100 for has been sitting in his shop for a few years but everything seems good and was pulled from a Scout with under 50k on it guess it was wrecked but the mounts seem dif in my truck form the ones that are on there anyone know what mounts I will need? The 304 had 2 on the front mounted to a cross beam and the 345 has what looks like where it mounts right to the frame and advice is great

thanks guys

If the 345 from a Scout is going into the 1110, it will need the mounts from the 304 you just pulled. You should be able to swap them over. Also, you'll notice that the oil pans are different between the pick-alls and the scouts. The dual sump pan was necessary in the Scout to clear the solid front driving axle. I don't know if that pan will cause you any clearance issues in the 1110. Give that some thought, because if you need to swap the pan over, then you'll also need to swap the oil pump and pickup assy as well.

Make sure the new motor has the front sump oil pan and I'd transfer the mounts from your old engine to the replacement one.

Okay thanks guys the old motor was from the combine that was never installed right so the old pan will not work the mounts will but they are shot any idea where I can get new? And also the the oil pump what one will I need? I am new the IH

I'd call IHPA in the morning and ask them for help. They might be able to hook you up with a combination of new and used parts. That, and you could place an ad in the wanted section of the classifieds in this forum. You need two dog bone engine mounts, a front sump oil pan + matching oil pump/pickup, and front mount dipstick tube and stick.
