Grille/headlight bezel swap 800a -> 800

Hey all,

I'm wondering if it's possible to swap out the headlight bezels and front grille on a Scout 800 and give it the look of an 800a. I much prefer the looks of the a, but my area only seems to have plain ol' 800s available!

Hi shannon. I have not done this myself, so bear that in mind, but I think all you would need is the square bezel and rectangular center pieces from a later a or b Scout. You would need to ditch your round bezels and I think you would also need to remove your center grille mesh piece. Then it should be a matter of careful measurement and creation of the necessary fastening holes into your existing grille frame to accept the a/b bezel pieces. I don't know if the grille frame is bolted in or spot-welded in place, but it shouldn't be necessary to swap that piece out anyway.
 
Thanks for the answer! That doesn't sound bad at all.

The shape of the front end looked the same between both, but I wasn't sure if maybe there was a subtle difference to accomidate the square bezels rather than the round.
 
Yeah I don't think there's any significant sheet metal difference. I think the bezels were ihc's cheap and easy way of giving the aging starlet a face lift. Lipstick on a pig, but they shore is purdy pigs!
 
Scoutboy I love you man but your off just a little bit. You can modify you front grill and make 800a grill parts work on the 800 grill if you don't mind not really being able to convert to the full look of the 800a. The 800 & 800a grills have different sized front turn signals (800a turn signals are the same as scout2s)and typically the mounting tabs to mount the 2 different center grills are not the same. If your able to find a 800a to rob all of these parts off of then I recommend getting the entire front grill assembly with all of the lights and grill assembly and swapping it onto a 800. Just my opinion... Whenever I see a earlier Scout with a bunch of different years of parts on it.... Makes me wonder if the Scout has been wrecked? But if someone just changes a grill and they do the whole thing cleanly.... It could have been done by IH since not alot was set in stone.
