Ok...it's official!

The 2008 edition of the International scouts and trucks of oregon presentation of the Great Western Binder Bee will be convened yet again at antique powerland in brooks, or on July 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2008.

This will be the fourth year for the premier IH-related event on the left coast to be held at a truly unique venue which is a historical show place for all forms of motorized transportation. The centerpiece is a fully functional (and operational) steam-powered saw mill which will perform during the show, giving a glimpse into the most important industry that is associated with the northwest.

Planning has begun in earnest for the 2008 event and much more information will be forthcoming over the next several weeks. For current information and specific concerns, inquiries should be sent to only this email addy so we can manage responses in a timely manner:

The theme for the IHSTO Great Western Binder Bee has been finalized. In celebration of the great heritage and culture of the timber industry in the pacific northwest, we have selected:

"International Harvester on the log deck"

as the most important industry in this part of the world, we will be shining the spotlight on the small, independent logging operations which were so prevalent in the 40's>60's in the region. By far, the vehicles of choice for crew operations and timber hauling carried the IH badge, and we're fortunate to have some remnants of typical, small time logging operations that will be showcased in vendor village, along with the signature vehicle, a kb 8 timber hauler as discussed in this thread:

The Great Western Binder Bee 2008 exhibitor registration form which also includes a campsite reservation is now available for download in two different formats. This makes for one stop shopping, please do not make a campsite reservation directly with antique powerland as IHSTO is managing the entire camping facility during the Binder Bee.

Rv campsites with electricity and water (no black water dump) are limited in number, make your reservation using the form asap! We have virtually unlimited dry camping and tent sites available however as in years past.

And campers...as always, the IHSTO Binder Bee committee will host a potluck for registered participants on Friday evening, so make your grub plans accordingly and bring a dish...you won't be disappointed!

The official logo for the 2008 edition of the Great Western Binder Bee has been finalized.

This image will be the background for this year's t-shirt and will carry the logos of our show sponsors. Sponsor opportunities will close on May 1st so that all print materials can be finalized and sent out for reproduction.

Two recent additions from the Binder Bee pimp squad...

A copy of the multi-page show brochure with the daily schedule and all "need to know" information.

And a copy of the show grounds layout. This serves to focus on actual show activities...but keep in mind, the antique powerland museum facility covers approximately 60 acres and many of the individual museum facilities and additional attractions are not represented on the layout. And the camping area covers much more ground than shown on this map.

Pre-registrations are running slightly ahead of this same time last year so that is very encouraging! Typically, only about one fourth of show participants actually pre-register.

The huge pile of raffle prizes for all ages is still growing daily with a very special item from warn industries and two complete gear sets for any Dana axle set from dave the gear man.

We're on the ground...Binder Bee 2008 set up is under way!

Major construction going on here with a complete new water distribution system going in, several major buildings will then be added with renovations set for others over the next few years. Powerland is expanding!

But the grass is nice and green, plenty of shade for vendor village, and registrations are running at the same pace as last year!

Yawl come on out!
 
Jeff and Chad have managed to scrap up enuff kash to make it to the show, they hit the ground in time for grub last night!

Now they just need to pimp enuff swag this weekend to raise the bucks to git home on! They hit every trash can on the way up snakin' cans and bottles, so they got enuff to at least fill up for the return ride (at least a 100 miles).
 
We've had a great turnout for the Binder Bee setup day, far more folks have arrived with multiple rigs than we anticipated!

Today is the big show and ernie bisio and ron rawls will be arriving shortly, along with the majority of show participants!

Mike richards and family have now shuttled five rigs over, and one more is due in today. The northwest binders contingent arrived last night along with corey smith and his crew cab terra from spokane. And the kleas from san diego showed up after spending a couplea days cruisin' the wineries in the willamette valley. A 1600 loadstar armored car even surprised us!

Ain't no smoke up here folks (other than the primer fire for the boilers for the steam-power saw mill)!
 
Yesterday's (Saturday) attendance far exceeded our projections! Whole buncha new folks we've never met with many additional early fullsize rigs (early t'alls all over the place!) and many more heavily modded scouts than ever before! And over 100 tickets sold for the bbq/awards gathering!

All the vendors are happy and have made petro-dinero so they can get home. The trail ride folks are gathering out front right now, so we expect some more stories and bs fodder before we wrap up at 2pm!
 
That was a good weekend. I haven't seen that many internationals all in one place before. It was pretty damn cool.

Thanks Mike, kathy, lyle, linda, carl, Mike richards and everyone else involved in pulling off the 2008 bee. It was incredibly well done, professional, and a great experience. I know you guys worked hard.

Dan led the trail drive. He scouted out and set up the run at least a week in advance. Dan does an excellent job as a trail boss.

We had 5 scouts on the run. We picked up a stray range rover and I think he has new found respect for true American iron.

Dan took us up cedar tree. There were some challenging and technical parts as well as some beautiful scenery. We had an alternator give out and an electric fan in another Scout fry before noon.

After lunch dan took us down to a rock pile where we engaged is a little more extreme style of offroading.
 
Another bee is in the can, we all pulled out of powerland by 4pm on Sunday.

Thanks again to everyone who attended the tribal gathering, attendance greatly exceeded our expectations in light of this summer's travel costs. We've now found a bunch of "new" folks with rigs no one knew about which is really encouraging...and likewise....they didn't know about IHSTO until they saw the posters, flyers, and brochures we've scattered over the northwest in the last four months. And a huge contingent from northwest binders rolled in which was a tremendous surprise! But the way them folks continue to breed new generations which get toted along, I guess we can expect the IH lifestyle to continue long after gasoline disappears as a motor fuel!

The high point? Ernie bisio and ron rawls were with us all day Saturday wandering around... And bs'n everybody! Ernie was assisted by his cub cadet which he pressed into service as his golf cart! He's looking great and his medical issues have certainly not affected his gift of gab or his memory!

Jeff and Chad pulled outta here at dawn, their load is at least 1,000lbs. Less than what they pulled up...and their pockets are stuffed with dinero from a very successful vendor village experience!

The warn industries engineers learned far more about the "old iron" market for warn products than they ever imagined, and saw many examples of very early original warn products (most of which were "obsolete" by the time the guys were even born). In fact...the 1300c flatbed truck we ran through the diagnostic lane was sold by ernie new to warn industries and used for many years as a local parts runner and delivery rig, even had one of their first "modern" prototype winch bumpers on the front. In later years ernie bought it back from warn and re-sold it, it is now in daily service for a concrete contractor around the portland area!

Dave the gearman kept everyone entertained with tales of his nascar days and with the ihc factory branch/region based in portland up to 1984.

It was super to see cyndi and the binder books crew back with us with a booth full of swag...and our own trailboss dan/ tractractor offroad got to show off his latest handiwork on Mike foster's 1110 pickup disc brake conversion!

We've not had any reports back from dan regarding the trailride that left out on Sunday morning, our visitor's from san diego, Brian and cindy, hopefully weren't left on the trail somewhere...they had flights out of pdx early this morning!

And one last thing for me that kinda capped the whole weekend...about 6pm Sunday evening I gotta call from a gal in portland...she said they had so much fun and met such a bunch of great folks (they are IH noobs), they wanted to come back down for a Sunday evening hangout/bs session. But I had to tell her she was too late...we had already packed up and returned to the shop! She will be at the next club meeting though!

I can't say enough about how well this whole deal played out...our organizing committee...kathy, lyle, linda, carl, and Matt did a super job of taking care of bizz over the last year...and many IHSTO folks stepped up to the plate when called upon to help us out! We had many members hang around and assist with teardown/cleanup, a job nobody wants to do but they were there when needed!

Thanks again to all the committee, volunteers, and most of all our audience for yet another highly successful Binder Bee!!!

And we'll see everyone at the Sierra Fall Rallye in dobbins, CA on October 10!!!!

I hung out with Brian and cindy quite a bit this weekend and on the trail ride. They had a very good time and were not left wanting. Dan really gave them a good ride and Brian could not believe how well a 152 could perform in a Scout. He was very impressed. Cindy had a very good time as well. Lots of smiles and camaraderie. Brian got the northwestern style offroad bug pretty good. He was talking to cindy about building a crawler when last I saw them in the parking lot after the trail run. They look forward to coming back and they made lots of new friends up here.

Thanks for watching out for the klea krew drew! I hated not being able to not visit more with everyone...but I never saw them again after the bbq. And everyone was gone for the buggy ride when I went out front to see yawl off!

Brian and cindi have a shot at a nice little shortee peekup like mine right now, only 2x4 on propane. But it would make a really unique heavy-modded crawler! And if you could see their sii and their early moostang, ya could see how they could make a crawler happen as well!

By the way, katy's home brew cinnamon rolls won my award for "best in show"...I just finished the last of 'em a few minutes ago, now I gotta put the keyboard in the dishwasher along with the pie plate! That was a wonderful surprise and now we have an official IHSTO comfort food to go along with smoked chuppee and Scout stout!

No one ever has ta prompt ya chris...ya just do what needs to be done!

Drew was sharing carl's camera most of the time also, and doc has gotta have several hundred shots also. Yawl did a great job regarding documentation!

Thanks guys for a great show! Chad and I got back yesterday afternoon after a very pleasant drive thru the oregon mountains. Now back to work as I have a ton of catching up to do.
