Fuel Pump

So I have seen numerous recommendations on fuel pumps for the TBI setup. I looked closely at the picture of what afi has in there kit. It appears to be the masters e2182, is that correct? I found usn bill had a post on binder bulletin it seemed that he is recommending the same pump. Well I’m going to go with that pump since it is readily available here in ut at the majority of the parts stores around. I’m just looking for some reassurance on this pump selection; will this pump work just fine? Is this the same one afi has in the kit pictured?

Well what kind of reassurance do you want? I don't recommend what I don't use. The e2182 or the e2000 both work and I use both of them.
Did you look at any of the FAQ's in the injection forum while you were there?

Parts required, wiring, distr, ignition...

The pump that afi uses is not the same pump. It is a napa/other brands...5001 pump.
They work also.

They suck gas in one side and push it out faster on the other.
The regulator in the tb maintans the pressure. So all the pump has to do is maintain the 12-14psi constant throughout the rpm range. For an IH that's about 4k stock.

I dont doubt you on what pump afi is putting in there kit. Below is what they have pictured for their kit on their website. They wouldn’t tell me over the phone what they were using. The pump in the picture looks exactly like the e2182.

Yes I did read the FAQ and in the section for “fuel systems” there are two links, one for intank pumps and one for dual tanks. The link for “intank pumps” makes reference to an acctual intank pump setup. I did not see in the FAQ anywhere what pump I can use externally of the tank and mounted to the frame.
:)
no I didn’t mean to question your recommendation. I guess I poorly worded my question. Somewhere along my way through the forums, on some other thread, maybe this one, ( misc. Carb/TBI/fuel pump questions - binder bulletin forums ) I thought I had read that I can mount this e2182 externally to the frame, low and close to the tank. Is that correct?
:)

Ok here is the thread that creates the controversy for me. This is just an observation; I don’t mean to be a critic. I value your expertise bill.

Anyway in this thread: http://www.forums.IHPartsAmerica.com/fuel-injection/81-fuel-pumps.html Rock tractor is talking about his fuel pump from afi being noisy. (I’m not worried about the noise). You later replied “the e2000 comes with a pad of 1/2" foam”.
Then the thread goes on to talk about other fuel pumps.

So again, same question: I thought I had read that I can mount this e2182 externally to the frame, low and close to the tank and it will work just fine, is that correct?

Thanks for your time bill, and anyone else who May reply.

The quick answer is ..yes it will work fine.
You seem to be missing the trees for the forest here!!!:)

you jumped right past the "what parts do I need" FAQ and went to fuel systems.
The external pump was not addressed there since it is already in the initial parts thread.

As for the afi pump...I know norm has used several different pumps over the years. No idea when that pic was taken. He May have switched to the same one I use or that May be an old pic and he no longer uses it.

The bottom line is ...it doesn't matter. As stated before, as long as the pump can provide the needed fuel, it's good.

I'll include a couple of the basic "getting started" links to help you out.

GM based system.
first-
what parts do I need?
what throttle body adapter do I need?

then we need to be able to hook all these parts up so:
what wires do I need to use?

can you walk me through a fuel injection conversion step by step? Thread in progress!!

Hope this helps-hth

Yes sir your right. I did jump past the “what parts do I need”.
I’m lucky enough to have someone in person to help me through this project. He had told me what to get but had a different idea for the fuel pump so that is why I had jumped. On his Scout he is running an internal setup intended for a GM truck. I didn’t want to go that route so he had me running through this forest of a forum looking for what I should be using.
Thanks for keeping me on track bill. :) I’ll post later how it went. I should be making the initial startup today.
Thanks for your help.

The afi fuel pump in the picture was from a long time ago. Then we used a p5001 which has a lifetime warranty but is kind of noisy.

We run four different pumps now depending on the application.

Any of the e2182 e2000 or p5001 pumps will work fine for your system.
