front axle engaged switch question!

The 72 model t18 and d20 I just installed had no switch on the t/case for the dash light. I removed the switch from the 74 727/d20 combo and installed on the swap in. Still no light. Wires and switch good tested both.
Did they leave this option off the older scouts as I cant see a slot in the shift rail to actuate the switch. Or is there a different switch for the older models , just curious !

You got it right on the first one. There's no detents in the shifter rails of the earlier d20's to work with the indicator switch.
