Flat towing and transmission question

If I "flat tow" my scout, I am told that I need to disconnect the drive shaft. Question: If I put the transfer case in neutral and the transmission in neutral or park, won't that suffice re: not disconnecting the drive shaft?
I am thinking there are bearings in the transfer case that won't get lubed/wet if the driveshaft isn't connected.

I've seen scouts towed with the driveshaft connected, and some not connected.

It's a hassle to pull the shaft, but that is the hundred percent no questions asked method. Not doing so puts you in the land of what ifs, maybes and coulda shoulda wouldas.

See this thread for advice.

Thats T18/Dana 20. Last comment from a trans rebuilder, transmission in gear, tcase in neutral. Still most say pull the shaft.

Most other posts are just unlock the steering wheel, and unbolt the rear shaft at the diff, zip tie up or bungee up.
