Drivers Side Upper Water Tube Not Sealing

drivers side upper water tube seems like it is not "long" enough to seal in the water pump. By feel it seems that it is about 1/8 inch short of getting a solid seal. My first attempt was done with a 216 o ring and a slight bit of silicone. It lasted for a couple minutes. I read up a bit and thought that the 217 might solve the problem. Resealed it and it is even worse. Questions are:

can I bend the water tube to extend further towards the water pump seal?

Is my water pump seal, or whatever the tube seals to, lip too far gone to use?

Can I use multiple o rings?

Since there is quite a bit of space around the tube entering the bore can I fill the void with some sort of "sealer" to solve this problem?

I have two tubes that both look like good parts. The rear seal is perfect on both.

Do I need to uploard a pic of the tube in question?

Thanks in advance all.

The seal in normally around the outside and inside of the oring and the tube and head... There needs to be some compression of the oring as you insert the tube into the pump and head or block depending on ic or not(only 392).

There is no requirement that the tube bottoms in the bore.
If you are not sealing make sure the bore and tube are pit free where the oring lands and that you have about 20% oring compression as you push it into the bores.... Do not reuse the orings... They will take a set and leak. If you do have a bit of pitting, a sealant like silicone will help but you will need to let it set over night assembled before filling with water.

Have you tried to loosen and reposition the pump? May be enough play in the blots to line things up better...

In some of the advice here and elsewhere I had read that using a brake hone would help with the seal. I did that on mine and it seems to have worked fine.

Ahhhh. Thanks for the clarification on that. Now that I know it doesn't need to bottom out against the inner lip in the bore I should be able to get this to work. I'm going to hone out the bore and smooth things out. It should help seal better.

Make sure you have the oring compression if not you'll need a larger section oring. Like for instance the thickness is 3/32 with no compression get .125 thickness of the same od.

I have had issues with sealing too. My problem was the y shaped metal bracket that bolts to the head and puts pressure on the shoulders of the water tube was distorted. I hope this makes sense! Anyway, I had to re-bend the tabs that put pressure on the shoulders of the water tube. If you wrench them down to tight they will deform and don't put pressure on the shoulder of the tube. Thats my 02 cents worth of knowledge, if the o rings are correct. I also always use a small piece of emory cloth to clean the bore in the head and a good dose of the old indian head gasket sealer inside the bore and around the o ring. I hope this helps.
