Delco with pertronix 2 unit question

I know this probally has been answered a hundred and one times but I just want to double check I got it right before I even try lol. Soo I installed a pertronix 2 unit in my delco distributor no problem but I am some what lost on coil resistance to run. I went to pertronix online and they say with the 2 unit to use .6 ohm resistance coil and that's what they are even selling so I got a msd blaster 2 coil 8202 with a .7 resistance thinking id be fine. But with more reading now I think itll kill it?? Do I need to run a ballast resistor of 0.8 ohm to bring me to a safe level of 1.5??:mad2:

wire running to the coil is straight 12v none resistance wire from my new kwikwire 14 circuit unit direct if that changes anything.

I do know with the 1 unites you have to run a 1.5 resistance but they advertise the 2 unites to handle .6 now. Even though they sell there coil with the .6 I want to double check with everyone before I screw up. Hope there not just marketing bsing me lol:mad2:

Unless you've already bought a coil, I'd just go with the stock one. You will never see the rpm's or high compression rations to need a performance coil. If you want the chrome look use the matching pertronix coil.

I wanted the black pertronix one for stock look but nobody had them:( but even with the matching pertronix coil the ohm resistance is only .6 and that seems dangerously burn out close?? Maybe I am way off and over thinking it or read to many b.s. Story's online?? Then my msd with .7 resistance shall do okay being its alital more then they use even? More resistance wont hurt a thing will it??

I hate the young and dumb part off me sorry for all the questions bare with me haah

We're bearing with you, young 'un. Don't even sweat it! Generally speaking, 1.5 ohm primary resistance is called for with a p-tron module in a v8 engine, but that May just be for the original version. The later versions May indeed be fine with a lower factor. The matching coil they pimp suggests this May be the case. I would think a call to p-tron tech support could verify it for you in short order.

I went through this a couple years ago. Your msd coil is a full 12 volt coil and the ignitor II is a full 12 volt module.

The II also senses when the ignition is on and the motor is off so they won't burn up like the original from leaving the key on.

No ballast resistor is needed.

Soo today I called pertronix tech, good guy I talked to anyways yup jauringer is spot on right with everything. Cool beans that it wont burn out and he said the p-tron 2 is best at .6 to 1.0 no higher though so I am good to go:) fired it up first time and it rumbles nicely:) to bad after break in I had a valve cover gasket leak so tore that off with a new one:) seems I went alital heavy with the wrench the first time and squished a bit to much! Thanks guys for the help:) now no leaks fingers crossed
