Dana 30 Disc Brake Conversion

Hello,

Running through my inventory of parts for my Scout II build.

Rig is an early 71 Scout II (810) with a Dana 30 - open knuckles. This is a stock build for the street, so no rock crawling, lifts, big tires etc, so the 30 should be just fine. I do, however want to convert the 30 to disc brakes up front. Friend of mine gave me the parts in the pic from a long gone, (bent tube), Dana 44. Question is....will these parts swap over to my 30?

I have the spindles, steering knuckles, wheel hubs and caliper anchor plates. Of course I'd go with new bearings, ball joints, rotors, calipers and dust shields.

Will this work and am I missing any other major parts? If good, I'll start in with some sandblasting/paint.

Yes, that will work. You'll need a disc/drum distribution block as well as a disc/drum master cylinder and booster assembly. Can't recall if the MC plunger rod is different between drum and disc setup.

Thanks. Here is the booster he gave me as well, to use a a core.

Also, are the ball joints for a 30 the same as a 44? In other words, what year ball joints, or part numbers should I request?

Should I use dust shields?

Thanks!

My dust shields are obviously toast. Think I've had trouble finding these in the past. IH Parts America are no longer manufactured.

Any sources?

Rust worms have been feeding on those pretty hard. It looks like barring a used set in decent shape, you might be SOL.

Call our parts department at 530-274-1795. We should have one more good used pair of dust shields available. We can also help you out on all the rest of the parts you need to complete your disc brake conversion including ball joints, calipers, brake pads, wheel bearings, rotors, etc.
