Choke not staying put

I've been doing a lot of test drives on my 80 with 152/1904 recently and the choke has a nasty habit of closing up as I drive around (handle coming out). I normally notice because the idle is suddenly very high when I come to a stop. Is the solution to get a new cable assembly with more friction, or is there a smarter way?

My friend john's 65 80 has the same affliction. I'm interested to see the results of this thread.

I've never experienced this kinda deal with any manual control choke!

There are "vernier"-design bowden cable controls that have adjustable friction stops built in such as used in pto throttle apps, aircraft throttle apps, etc. Worked with one onna fire truck pumper motor just last month, very nice pieces but spendee. The pump pressure is controlled by the governed throttle, and held in position by the friction stop. That way pump pressure is fine tuned for vertical head and discharge.

Try this for samples:

zip's truck equipment - parts & accessories

Try simply adjusting the choke control cable so it has more slack in it before choke/fast idle actuation. You can also rig a light "return" spring to the choke control.

John's just wantin' ta increase hiz carbon footprint, him an' me iz on tha same page! Fook owlgore!

Well,,

after all of my carb fiddling my Scout now does the same thing after or during long freeway drives. It comes out about 1/4 inch. The choke knob never lined up correctly so I rotated it so the "c" read right the last time I instaled the carb.

I will mess with it and see what helps.

What is this ..."copy cat month"????

Let's add friction to the choke cable system! Yawl got them cable sets greased up too slick now! They came from the factory with cables all rusty and tuff to pull!

Pull the wire out of the conduit and "lightly kink" it up and down it's length so that it drags heavily on the conduit when ya reinsert it.

I was going to try that... :)

the problem maybe that the scouts are messing with us. They might have a "screw with your owners" form.:nono: :nono:

they want to relax after 45 years on the job.:icon_mrgreen:

No doubt! But do not let 'em win! You tell that leetle bastard 1904 that a dam electric choke weber is gonna retire it to china. Then see what he sez!
