Cage tie in

I am putting the cage(6 point with seat mounts) in my 800 and will be tying into the frame, sliders and fender bars which are also 1.75 x .120. If this was your truck would you solid mount? Would you put in isolator bushings? Other ideas that dont include an exocage, as I am not fond of this look? I do not wish to cut holes in the floor since I wish to have a somewhat sealed vehicle for winter runs and dont want dogs or others to get pinched by movement. This is a dedicated but street legal crawler so if the body is fatigued a little it wont be the end of the world.

This is what I had in mind(already cut and drilled the plates) but wanted to hear other opinions. Was going to order one(which would have been cheaper) and add the tie ins but everyone I know has waited way too long for delivery from that vendor( I wish to wheel this before next year) plus I want a boxlike 800 cab look all the way to the back(just shorter) to my cage not the sloping back section. 1.75x .120 hrew with 1" for bracing. Any ideas for keeping access to the tranny tunnel while incorporating the seats into the cage. What do you think of the shackle at that angle, it doesnt seem to hit and it droops like crazy! No purist here I have Chevy Ford Jeep toyota dodge IH combo. Use what works. If it was the best stock we wouldnt need to mod them. I was goin g to link the rear but those who have only rear claim it kills the front springs. Saw a set go from new to a w in two runs!

Being in reno you are not that far from our shop. Bring the Scout and we can bend up a cage for you.

As for the seat bases you can make the center section removable. Check out mc's build and pay attention to the front of the cage.

Your shackle angle is farily steep but does work good for crawling. I bet its soft going around the corners.

As for link rear/leafs up front I don't have much to say there as we have yet perform a similiar setup. I will say most that I have seen and have eaten up the front springs were usually due to using too soft a spring under a heavy vehicle.

I would but I already have the tube and have started the cagework/shock hoops and fender bars now. Just out of curiosity what would you get for a job like that? Fender tubes tied to sliders and frame front to back. Havent tried the new 109 wheelbase so we will see how that works. 25" to the bottom of the frame.

Can you point me to mcs build I cannot seem to find this?

A very rough estimate would be in the $2000 range.

Check in the IH only build ups near the top of the forum.

I used the plates from ballistic fab, but its the same idea as the ones Jeff posted. And for a bushing I bought a semi truck mud flap from napa and samwiched a peice of that in-between the two plates to act as a bushing.

Go to google and use the image search for "cage tie in" it'll give you a few ideas of what others are doing. Also check out the build of my cage 67scout mini build-up: half cab roll cage / sliders / new floors - binder planet forums

Good luck on the build and props for a sick looking 800.

More progress finally.

Nice pix.

That is what I did for a & b pillars (connected them to the rock slider supports).

The c (rear) tie in turned out nice.
That's been I my to do list for a long time..
Pretty much the exact same thing, but I plan on putting a bushing on the frame end (like a shackle hanger to a spring).

I already have the tube and it will match the cage so 1.75 May be a little overkill but I am doing the IH engineer thing thing, if its metal use more of it.

Making more progress.

Got seats from an 89 camaro and mounted them to the cage pics to come soon. Does anyone see any problems that might arise with this cage? What would you do different if it was your 800? Should I add more diagonals? The cage supports the body more than the og mounts ever did so no bushings for me, also no frame flex for me solid. Can I swap the windshield for one from an 80 or is the frame more permanent than a sii?
