Big Block Chevy TBI questions.

I'm getting ready to swap a TBI setup on to my '85 Chevy 454 - I 'think' I have all the parts lined up. But I still have a few questions.

I am going from a running TBI IH 304 to a converted TBI 454 Chevy.

1) wiring differences - the only thing I am aware off is the tps and iac are wired a touch different than the smaller stuff.

2) adapter -- do I really need the huge water cooler oem adapter? And can I run it without water in it?

3) fuel pressure - I've heard they run at a higher pressure than the smaller stuff? Fact or fiction? I have a 0-15 psi gauge and it would be sweet if it worked for the new setup.

4) rev limiter - is there anything in the stock ECM for this? I knew and could 'feel' the limit on my 304 and also wasn't worried about blowing it up - but the 454 is all new to me and I'd rather not kill it right away.

5) fuel pump - all the cool kids are switching from e2000's to e8248's pumps - anyone tried one?

Thanks!!!

1. Correct and some did not use a knock sensor.

2. No/no but it depends on your manifold what you do need.

3. Depends on what year your system is and what it was in. You will find out when you turn it on.

4. I've never hit a rev limiter and I spin mine faster than most.

5. Looks like master has finally came up with a universal kit. It's the same pump with standard barb fittings. It'll work fine but looks like it cost a little more since it has the mounting ubolts.

Thanks!

I'm using the stock GM manifold on the '85, which is the same manifold they used until they went to the vortex 454. It looks like a standard carb manifold.

The e8248 seems to be the solution for a lot of peoples high rpm fueling problems. When running my 304 I never needed to worry about that - but a lot of the pirate guys with everything from a 4.3 to an lsx are swearing by them adnd swearing at the e2000's.

Also - what is the current easist way to convert the ECM from the 24 pin to standard 28 pin. I have a co-worked who can solder anything so that opens up a lot of options I'm sure.

The pump is the same for the e2000, e2182 and the new one. The only difference is the inlet and outlet size. The e2000 is the smallest so it is the least desired for big motors or high hp applications. (common sense)

to convert chips take a look at the bp FAQ's. I have complete conversions written up.
