battery life

Most car batteries good for 3-4 yrs right? In 2001 I bought a new Ford crown vic with a motorcraft grp 27f installed. I still have this car and the same battery, don't drive it very often but today it turned over once again and it was out in below zero weather this winter. How can a 13 yr old battery still deliver starting amps??

60 to 84 month warranty batteries are fairly commonplace. That's 5 to 7 years. Good ones that are well maintained can outlive the warranty. I would say your situation is unusual, but probably not unheard of. Knock on wood at every chance you get, because that one must be on some serious borrowed time.

I just read on another forum about a guy still using a battery he bought in 1999. Quality pays. Probably the best battery out there now is the diehard platinum now that optima started cutting corners.

I got 10 years out of a original motorcraft battery in a 93 ranger. Drove it every day and then one day zippo. Not even a dome light.. I assumed a failure in a buss bar. Fatigue fracture.
