80 scout 304 Holley 2 barrel

Re: 1980 scout 304 Holley 2 barrel

If it's worth it or not is up to you. My Scout still has the original 2210 carb on it. This was a real common problem for me when the mtbe was in the gas with the 2210 and a 2300 series carbs on my trucks. I already said what I'd try if my truck was acting that way.

To really understand these carbs I'd suggest purchasing a factory service manual. They have some excellent graphics diagramming the different fuel circuits in these carbs.

Do you need to smog this truck? If so the factory carb is easier to deal with.

Going to try it, however my carb has no vent tube on the top, so 1 pint per tank of gas?, should I drain the gas and then refill with new gas and the denature alcohol. I don't need emission or smog here, but would like to keep it as original as possible.

It looks like it does have a vent from your pic. The vent is about a 1/4" cast tube on air horn that sticks up about 1.25". Have your mixture screws about 2.5 turns out. Run it hard through the gears and see if that does it.

The travelette must have got a bad tank of gas in it one time and even after driving it hard up a long grade it would clear and replug (I hadn't added alcohol) until that tank was finished. After adding a fresh tank of gas it idled like a swiss watch.

How old is the gas that's in the tank now? If it's been much over a year you might want to change it if it smells stale.

New carb Holley 0-7448 straight out of box new fuel line and maual choke. Runs great. Thanks for all of the advise. Sometimes it pays off to spend a little bit more to save time. Next challenge is to repair sagging door/hinges.

Right on! You can get rid of a lot of rubber spaghetti now, if you haven't already. How are you coming on the tv rod situation?

Here are some tv rod linkage pics from engine level. This is on a 1210, so while not identical to the sii setup, it will at least give you a good idea of how things should be set up.

Yes, I have that. The first pic you could not see it well. I will send a pic towards the end of the week. Does anyone have a picture of the best place to hook up linkage to the 0-7448 carb. Just want to make sure I have it right.
