74 Scout II (running) project

Hey all. I'm not the greatest at documenting and taking photos but, I've already been semi scolded on my 72 thread so I'll try to do better, lol.

This is my 74 Scout II with a mopar 318 and 727 trans. As with my 72, I don't get a lot of time to work on it so my knowledge on this rig is limited. At the moment, the 4wd doesn't work because the front shaft is dropped, bought it that way. I'm not sure what the axles are and have no clue what the gearing is but hope to look into that soon. Hopefully the gears match up between the front and rear so I can pop the front shaft back in. I do know it's a Dana 40 tcase. At any rate, I'll fill in my progress with pics but for now, here's how she sits.

Never heard of a Dana 40 t-case. You mean Dana 20?

Now there was never any scolding. Sheesh. :dita:

gotta get rid of that damn chrysler emgamine and get ya a boat anchor back in her.

At any rate she looks good buddy. Named her yet?

Only scolding you get from is it to swap out those flimsy shackle front and rear before them leaf springs go through the floor - lol just kidding.

Your 74 looks to be in better shape then my 74 when I started working on it. As of now mine looks nothing like what it did when it posed for the photo in my avatar pic. Don't go barrel rolling yours like I did mine.

Lol, gotta get my jabs in where I can guys! I'm sure I'll really be scolded at some point. Your right ihr, I was in a hurry when I typed all of that because my battery was about to die. Yes, it's a Dana 20 texas pattern tcase. I'm still debating on what I want to do with my suspension but, those shackles will be history soon scooter. At any rate, this is the day I bought her before money swapped hands. Kids were really excited!

The lean! About to pull the axles out from under this rig and do an upgrade on the suspension. Ordering a body mount kit this week. Worse case scenario, I have the leaf springs I can swap in from my 72 temporarily.

The lean from the rear. Definitely planning a shackle reversal once I remedy my lack of a welding machine. The only other debate I'm having with myself is lift springs, SOA or combination of both. I know I want 33" shoes but, I May go 35". Decisions, decisions!!!

Pulled this busted wheel out and swapped in the one from my 72. I plan on putting in a grant with the security lock.

The wiper switch was missing and I got tired of using a jumper wire to run the wipers so I swapped in the switch from the 72. Took a minute to figure out the wiring but all is good now. High and low speeds and returns to down position when I turn them off. Notice my oil pressure gauge, lol. Doing something about that soon as well.

I have a mess of po wiring to sort out and every pull cable is either just flopping around or missing all together!

Picked up this nifty little pull cable for the choke the other day. After adjusting the carb and putting this in, couple pumps on the gas pedal, she fires right up and idles smooth. Response to the pedal is a lot better too but the shift pattern is severely lacking. Shifting from 1-2 at around 2700 rpm no matter how hard I'm mashing on it.

The speedo wasn't working at all and the odometer was broken and flopped around. The 72's speedo whined and had busted plastic. Combined parts between the 72 & 74 speedos to have a working one. Went ahead and zero'd it out while I was at it. I've put those 35 miles on it since the fix.

Got tired of these metal only door panels flopping around and rattling from all the missing trim nuts so I swapped in the panels from the 72. Their now resting in the bed of my 72 for now.

The driver side door release was broken and both handles were missing too so swapped those in as well.

Forgot to mention that I did snag some of the trim nuts from the 72 as well. Also, both window handles were frozen and wouldn't swivel so swapped those too. I didn't swap the whole doors because both of them on the 72 have a little cancer that I plan to fix.

Didn't have much time tonight so I put a little time on the electrical until I broke the positive battery cable lug and the sun went down. Then I put a bit of time in on the 72. Can you get an idea of what I'm planning from this pic?
