So I was looking at my Scout repair manual and found that I cant understand it haha. What are the steps to remove the trans. Any tips or tricks will be greatly apprieciated. I could figure it out by myself eventually, but for me that always leads to broken parts or jacked up body parts.

The scouts im working on are a 76 and 77. Both are 4x4's and both are 727's

You need a transmission jack. You need to support the engine block from above. A 4x4 post laid across the fenders with two chains each wrapped around the post and then attached to the rear of each cylinder head with grade 8 bolts will do. Remove the trans tunnel cover for access from above. Drain the fluid from the transfer case. Position your tranny jack under the transfer case. Block the wheels. Disconnect both drivelines from the transfer case. Remove the bolts that hold the t-case to the tranny. Lower the t-case. Disconnect the tranny cooler lines and all linkages/electrical pigtails that are connected to the tranny. Remove the dust cover from the bottom portion of the tranny bellhousing. If the torque converter is equipped with a drain plug, remove the plug and allow fluid to drain from the converter. Remove all four of the flex plate bolts which secure the converter to the flex plate. Position the tranny jack under the trans oil pan and support trans with jack and secure. Remove transmission mount bolts from crossmember. Remove crossmember bolts from either side of the frame. Remove the crossmember. Make sure the battery is disconnected. Remove the starter. Remove all the large bellhousing bolts that secure the tranny to the engine block. Carefully separate the trans from the block and lower it for removal. Now, before doing any of these things. Consult the manual once more. What I've outlined is just a primer based on memory. I May have left out a step or glossed over something inadvertently. Hopefully this will help you make sense out of the directions in the manual. It's really not that hard to follow if you take some time to digest it. The main thing is go slowly and be safe. If you've got any friends that have r/r a trans before, it would be wise to enlist their help. Now the begged question...why are you wanting to remove both trannies?

Well the po of one of the scouts that I own had said that the tranny is busted, (im still working on getting it started. Sat for about four years is what the guy said in a barn " tons of mouse poo everywhere:icon_gonk: ). I got it started but there was two big rust holes in the tank that was masked by mud and a tank skid plate. So consequently 2 gallons of fuel was wasted. Soon as I get it started im going to mess with the trans and see if he knew what he was talking about before pulling anything.
