727 front pump

Hey guy's I'm resealing the front pump on my 74 Scout II 727 / t407 and I installed a new bushing, torque converter seal, o ring and gasket. Do I absolutely have to use assembly lube or can I use a little extreme pressure red grease on the bushing and pump gears? I would think the ep grease would wash off nicely when the transmission gets to operating temp? Thanks for the help guy's
 
A few squirts of atf works well for the pump gears. The greezy-er consistency is more for coating bearing/bushing mating surfaces and for adhesing gaskets/spacer shims in place during the assembly process. I don't know if the extreme pressure grease is advisable or not for this application. I do know a product called door-ease is suggested for use as a trans assembly lube by carl munroe in the torqueflite a727 handbook.
 
Thanks trevor, I talked to a guy at the local trans shop and he said they use a mixture of atf and stp. He also said that I can use vaseline for the bushings, seals and the pump (so it's not a hoax kimball). The ep grease I have is about the same consistency of vaseline. I know when the ep red grease gets hot it liquifies so I would think it would work well for this purpose. I do think I will go with the atf-stp mixture. On the aircraft engines we use a mixture of aero shell w 100-50 wt oil and stp for assembly lube. Thanks again for the info kimball and trevor. Danny
 
Didn't think that the petroleum jelly was too much of a haox since I read about using it in furd's aod transmision tech manuals
