72 resistance wire board on engine dash?

Hello all found this mounted high on firewall inside engine compartment right side. Had one light blue wire going down below cab and wrapped around frame rail. Removed the one wire and put it away, but what is this? Old resistor for ignition?
72 Scout II 345,t19, has functioning factory air. Everything works and runs fine.

It's a po virus. I currently have two 72's, one I have had for about 10 years, and neither of them have that. No clue why that was installed.
 
That's one funkalicious resistor block. Looks like its straight out of the 40's. Do you still have breaker points, or did someone upgrade to electronic ignition?
 
Perhaps the po was trying to make a 1 speed heater blower into a 2 or 3 speed one. Some vehicles of that vintage had the coils mounted into the air duct to keep them cool.
 
Still has points, believe a holly distributor. Looks like the original resistor wire is still going to distributor. I'll take off the block and stash it in the questionable IH box for the Scout. The patina on it matches the firewall, so thought it might be original equipment.
 
I'm thinking the trailer brakes idea is probably right on the money. Newest wiring on this Scout is some kind of brake balancing balancing module mounted under the dash that has a red led light that comes on whenever the brakes are applied. Previous owner ran an rv repair shop, so he probabaly upgraded whatever was on there when he got it. Thanks.
