71 scout trans

I have a 71 Scout 800B that came out with a borg-warner m-8 auto trans, some one mangled this trans. Im having it rebuilt but its a bear to find parts for. So I was wondering if the 727torqueflite will bolt up with out changing anything, or changing little. Just trying to find the best route to get my Scout on the road. Any help would be appreciated.

Which engine does your '71 Scout 800B have???

Is your '71 Scout 800B 2 wheel drive or 4 wheel drive???

Good, a tf727 + Dana 20 from a Scout II would bolt-up nicely.
You will need the "kickdown" linkage & bracket also to operate the 727.
The IH tf727 has a specific IH bolt pattern to bolt to the IH v-8 engine, you must use the IH patterned case, not one from a dodge or amc.
Lokar sells a nice throttle linkage kit & kickdown linkage kit that would make things easier for you, and they work better than the original IH parts.

Your t-case will work fine with a 727 from an sii so long as the adapter housing comes with an auto bull gear. In addition to the items already mentioned, you will also need an IH sv8/tf 727 flexplate and crank hub spacer. The bw flexplate and spacer you have now will not work with the 727. If your starter does not have a metal spacer shim between it and the engine block, you will need to source and install one of those for proper starter drive gear to flexplate engagement. It would be a good idea to source the metal atf cooling lines from an sii, since the bw plumbing is different. You will most likely need to do some minor fab work to your trans cross member in order to get everything mounted properly. An sii x-member May prove helpful in this regard. If you can make your current gear selector work with the 727, you won't need to worry about running new circuits for the neutral start system. If you have to swap in an sii gear selector, then you will need to study an electric schematic from a '73 or later sii with auto in order to run the wires necessary to make the nss functional.

Thank you so much everyone you have been a huge help. It's nice to know that I have a place to get help and great advice. Thanks again

To add what has already been posted up you probably might need to change out the Dana 20 transfer case as the internal gears might be different and therefore not compatible(the gear pitch was changed roughly around 1970). Once you have the transfer case off we will need to know the part number on the intermediate gear to see if indeed it is a later geared transfer case. This part number although hard to see is viewable without the removal of the gear itself.

Also when it comes to the shifter it will be easier to simply use the Scout II auto shifter. I've done this conversion before but it was some time ago so I don't necessarily remember every detail.

All needed parts can be obtained through our company. Best to call for parts availability and pricing.
