The "spun bearing" syndrome is exactly why so many of these axles were toasted and are toast now when ya tear one down from a pile! There is a service interval for that type bearing system called out for all oem manufacturers! Just like the front hub bearings on any vehicle.
But there is also a maintenance interval for the later "unit bearing" systems used in semi-floater axles!
Dana/spicer supplied many different configs in d27/30/35/44 drive axles with tapered hubs stretching back into the 40's for all vehicle manufacturers, both domestic and eurotrash.
