65 travelall lights questions

Ok so im broke
cant find parts for this vehicle so I gotta rig stuff to work
first question
does turn signal system run through light switch?
Second can some one help me out since I cant find light switch I need help wiring the l shaped connector to a two wire light switch I have thats brand new

If you mean the headlight switch, then no, the turn signals do not run through it. They get their power from the fuse block. The associated items for turn signals are: fuse block, ts switch, hazard switch, ts flasher, hazard flasher, brake light switch, bulkhead connector, front harness, front marker housings, rear harness, and rear light housings.
So are you trying to use some generic headlight switch that doesn't have the same terminal layout as the original?

Basicaly yea!

Before you go jamming a square peg into a round hole...yeah, that's what you're looking at doing...do you still have the original light switch? What makes you think its no good?

Vehicle had no lights, no switch, no transfer case linkage
back was full of spare parts but none I needed to get it going

I see. After a brief time spent digging, I was able to find a part number for what I believe is the proper headlight switch for your rig. It was used in a variety of vehicles besides ihc from the late 40's into the 60's. I don't think it is available through IHPA, at least not on the webstore, but out of respect for this vendor, I'll refrain from mentioning it here in public. If you're interested, shoot me a pm for more details. It isn't free, but it isn't super spendy either. I saw your other post about the employment woes...I feel your pain there, believe me. I've been in the same boat for too damn long. Its pretty frustrating, so enuff said there.

I'm just trying to envision how a two terminal switch is going to work in an application that requires multiple inputs and outputs. At minimum you need a separate output for the dimmer switch to control the hi/lo headlights, and a separate output to feed the taillights, park lights, and side markers front and rear. Then you should have a third output on a rheostat control to feed the dash lights. You have to have one input from the battery to feed all those outputs too. So that's four terminals and we haven't addressed the dome/courtesy lights which should have both a separate input from the fuse block and a separate output.

Are you able to post pics here? I'd like to see a pic of your stock connector and also the switch you're proposing to use.

They're just basic, dual beam round bulbs. Have you done any diagnostic checks to support your conclusion? I'm just saying that there can be a lot of potential reasons for your headlights not switching on, besides bad bulbs.

Both headlights dead, at the same time is highly suspect. Check the switch and high/low beam switch on the floor too. A good set of halogen sealed beams makes a nice upgrade. They are just the standard bulb from the era.
